Move from Kent to Cumbria?

Hi all hoping someone from Cumbria can help me with this.
I currently live in Kent a seaside town, it's expensive you don't get much for your money in terms of renting property!
I'm considering moving.. Looking on Rightmove what I'm currently paying for a 2 bed flat I could get a lovely house with a big garden and still make a saving! I have two young children and obviously want to be able to give them more space indoors and outdoors.
I love being by the sea but also near rural and I like Victorian/Georgian property on leafy roads so are there any areas I should look at in particular and any to avoid?

Walney island

Rampside

Greenodd

Ulverston

Flookbourgh

Drigg

St Bees

Can't promise Victorian and leafy streets in all of those as that is more of a town thing...

Kendal/Milnthorpe/ Carlisle etc all have Victorian houses but are further away from the coast

The west coast of Cumbria is quite isolated and there's a lot of driving to be done to get to the nearest large towns. You'd get a lot for your money there, but it feels very remote.

From Scrowy's list, I'd recommend Arnside and I'd add Grange-over-Sands. Nice Victorian houses there, although the beaches are not the best or safest - quite muddy with areas of quicksand.

Milnthorpe is a nice village within easy reach of Kendal, and Kendal itself is a lovely market town with all the services you'd expect.

Anything in the National Park is more expensive. Arnside, Grange, Silverdale,Burgh by Sands. Kirby Lonsdale. Some of the villages in Eden Valley. Check out flooding. Some of the villages bordering North Yorkshire.

I would agree with Kendall and around Penrith (Eden Valley) being nice although not very near to sea. Around Derwentwater is pretty if you want water. Outside the National Park is cheaper. Also further away from tourist traps. Windermere, Ambleside etc are a nightmare in high season.

Also Alston is lovely although pretty remote. Not Victorian but cobbled high street etc.

You will find it significantly colder and wetter than Kent- I am a northerner born and bred but will never live there now as it is just too cold.

I live in Grange over Sands and it's the most beautiful place I've ever lived in however I don't have a car and the public transport is bad especially at weekends (when I'm off work). It's very peaceful and quiet here, there seem to be lots of families with young children who look happy enough but I do see bored teenagers and from what I can gather there's not much for them to do so it depends on the age of your children.

It's practically a crime free area and you do feel incredibly safe living here.
