Young family Moving to South Devon - but where?

Hi, my DH and I are looking to move to South devon. We have 2 DC (aged 3 & 5) and we are pulling our hair out in trying to find the best place to live with young children. We love Totnes, I've heard Exeter is lovely but never visited and Chagford has been named best place to live in 2015...but for children? I don't know. We currently live in a lovely village in cheshire, I do love the village feel and being part of a community so I'd like to keep that. But also a village which would consist of a lot of other young families. If you have any tips on where would be best to look in to I would be grateful! Thanks

I've heard Exeter is good for schools but which villages are nicest for young families?

Where do you need to commute to or do you work from home?

I'm qualified as a community nurse and a midwife but I wouldn't need to work to begin with until the kids are settled. My DH would be working from home.

Abbotskerswell is absolutely lovely. We were going to move there before we moved to Cornwall. Also, Bovey Tracey is fantastic. It has lots of little independent shops (butchers, greengrocers etc) an amazing park and brilliant infant and primary schools. It has dartmoor on it's doorstep too.

Ashburton is great, a bit like Totnes only less hippy and without the horrendous traffic problems!

Woodbury is great for families, lovely toddler group, great primary school and close to Exeter...

Sorry, I've had no internet for the last few days. Brilliant thank you, I'll get searching on those areas. Did any of you move away with your family while they were young? I'm 30 and live in the same town I grew up in and find it very daunting moving the family to the other end of the country but I think it would be good for us.
