Do you get your petrol mower serviced every year??

DH thinks the mower is dead/dying. I just think it needs a service as it hasn't had one for a couple of years. What does everyone else do? Service it yourself? Get it serviced regularly? Abandon it in the shed and expect it to run sweetly come the spring? Just trying to work out what's normal.

We have never had ours serviced ,my husband will tinker with them ( ours and my mums) if they are not running properly but they do seem quite resilient .

DH usually does whatever needs doing (vague because I never do it !).

Check filters, change oil, sharpen or replace blades.

I think they are fairly simple beasts (the mowers not DH :))

We ditched our mower that needed regular servicing as it cost over £100 to have done, and bought a new mower in the sale for far less money

We get ours serviced once a year because gets a fair amount of abuse.

DH orders a kit from the manufacturer and does 'it' in the garage He takes the blades off and sharpens them on a grinder, changes oil and filters, and washes all the cruddy grass out of everywhere he can reach. Maybe more - whatever comes in the service kit!

Our mower is only 5 years old though, so I view it as maintenance really. Am hoping that doing it regularly when the mower is new will delay the point where we have to pay for someone to come fetch it/service it/return it.

Ours is a ride-on BTW. Suspect they need a bit more than a push-along?

We had our petrol mower for 19 years. It was never serviced. My dh did get a price for this but was shocked when it was more than his usual car service.

He did replace the spark plug a few years ago but that was about it.

Last month I treated him to a new mower. I bought a lovely self propelled one from Costco.

We've given our old one to a neighbour and it's still going strong.

I think we'll haul it out the shed, see how it runs, maybe poke about a bit to see if anything obvious is wrong, and then replace if it's still not happy.

The time I did get it serviced it was £60, and if you're doing that more than 2 or 3 times, it's almost cheaper to get a new one!
