Help me get through the next 6 months

Please give me some coping mechanisms for getting through my notice period - since I told my boss I'm retiring I'm having to resist the urge to tell everyone to fuck off with their pointless requests and bullshit business language.

Semi light hearted but seriously, how am I going to get through this?!!

Make the most of it. I had a great time in my runup to retirement saying all the things you're not supposed to say. I got a union post and had a whale of time arguing with HR, challenging rules, and correcting language.

Ha that's the balance to strike isn't it...I guess they can't sack me can they!

I did a lot of muttering under my breath. I arrived as late as I possibly could and left as early as I could each day. I didn't volunteer to do anything extra. In meetings I zoned out and contributed absolutely nothing unless something was specific to me. All of this made me feel better somehow.

I just rose above it all and knew it would soon be done.
I had a countdown on my calendar in the kitchen and on my work planner/diary.

I'm the same. Going in September.

Start planning what your first 6 weeks of freedom will look like. I'm mentally redecorating my house, making a stockist of all the things I will need. And the autumn tasks in the garden.

Or plan weekends away 😎

Unfortunately I lead most of the meetings I attend so zoning out and contributing nothing isn't really an option!

Good tip to plan my first few weeks off though.

Be incredibly lovely to everyone. Dispense droplets of joy and wisdom wherever you go. Channel the Lily Tomlin character who's dressed as Snow White in the stoned section of 9 to 5. It could be freakishly disconcerting.
All the time, have fun with your sweariest inner voice.
(It's what I'm doing and it's fun)

Well they can sod off with their uniform policy for a start!
I'd be rocking up in shorts and a band T shirt or a nice cool strappy vest. If you don't have tattoos to show off then get a big fake one.

Start swearing (if you didn't before).

Have fun changing your email signature...."Too old for this shit" might work? Or just "counting down the days until I'm free".

Congratulations!
