Volunteering overseas

Has anyone volunteered overseas ? I am retiring after long teaching career and keen to use my skills to join a project in Africa for 3- 6 months. I have travelled alot over the years am in good health.
There are many companies that offer packages to do this but just wondered if anyone had experence?

I'm British, but am a Science and primary grades teacher in the country of Myanmar (Burma) for 15 years or so. At 67 years old, I'm still teaching in-class, but only 4 days/week, because I do educational volunteer work at orphanages on the 5th day :)
