Would you recommend Gran Canaria or Lanzarote for a brief stay over the Christmas period? And what makes you prefer one over the other please?

I think if you check, you may find that GC south is warmer than Lanzarote?
I wouldn't recommend Playa Del Inglés but otherwise, I have little experience of GC. Some people on MN seem to like Maspalomas.

Depends what you want but Puerto du Mogan is pretty -small fishing village so fairly quite

Maspolomas has a lovely beach with an area of sand dumes, great if you want some seclusion from other on the beach further along the coast

Southern GC over lanzarote. Lanzarote is quite windy. Puerto Rico/ Puerto de Mogan are the warmest resorts in the canaries. Christmas time is the most expensive time to go.

This would be my suggestion. It's small, and very popular as a winter sun destination.
