I have searched and searched about comparing various providers but still none the wiser . Just wondering who are people with or what providers they recommend please. I think I would go with a managed fund as I have no clue . I do have a work place pension but as I'm part time they're only paying in 3% of my wages and I can put in more so I was going to open a personal pension aswell .

Is your pension at work a salary sacrifice of paid out of your after tax salary? There are some advantages to a salary sacrifice scheme (largely being saving of NI suffered at source), so it may be worthwhile paying more into your employer scheme. You will also then only be paying one set of fees.

Having said that, I maintain an occupational and a private scheme myself, my workplace pension is through Scottish Widows (previous providers have included Aegon, Now, Nest), and my personal pension is through Transact. Other providers include Aviva, Hargreaves Lansdown, Royal London, Standard Life…etc etc. Look at fees and breadth of funds (you may feel strongly about being able to choose an ethical fund for example). You could also approach an independent financial advisor if unsure.
