I've retired 🤩

Yesterday was my last day in the amazing village church school I've taught at for 24 years. Feel so honoured to have worked in such a special place.

I had an incredible buffet lunch then an assembly with 200 kids, many who read out poems, letters and sang songs. I then had to dance down the red carpet - as is tradition every Friday when we have Celebration Worship.

It was emotional and I cried, but now is the next chapter and I'm ready.

I have got a part time self employed role that is working from home so I'm not stopping work completely.

Life is good.

That's so lovely! Congratulations on entering this new chapter! Enjoy!

jay55 · 18/07/2025 07:28

Congratulations. May you have a wonderful retirement

LornaDuh · 18/07/2025 07:30

Happy Next Chapter ❤️

How do you plan to spend it?

BG2015 · 18/07/2025 07:36

Teaching speed awareness courses online for 15 hours a week, which will top my pension up nicely. Travel, lots and lots of travel.

Spending more time with my elderly parents, seeing friends and I have signed up to teach adults who can't read.

Sounds great, OP. And it's nice to hear someone on this board talking positively about teaching.

All the best.

WinterFrogs · 18/07/2025 07:58

Congratulations @BG2015 I wishing you a wonderful and happy "retirement"!
I love the sound of your plans 💕

(I sort of retired, not from teaching though, and ended up busier than ever!)

MsPug · 18/07/2025 07:59

Ah lovely! Enjoy ☺️

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 18/07/2025 07:59

It all sounds great

Have a fabulous time

BG2015 · 18/07/2025 16:16

@LornaDuh it's not always been great. Things have steadily got worse, particularly since Covid. Behaviour within classes can be challenging and parents are very unrealistic and demanding. These are probably the reasons I'm leaving.

But, my 29 years in education have been amazing on the whole and I'm glad I chose it as a career.

Good for you!
Enjoy your retirement, you won't regret it.

SiobahnRoy · 19/07/2025 15:30

Congratulations! 🥳

I also retired from teaching yesterday, after 30 years in secondary schools. So much has changed since I started! I’m not ready to stop working yet so am looking for a part time job probably with an educational charity.

neonjumper · 19/07/2025 16:47

Congratulations on your retirement. Can I ask did you have to have a qualification to be a speed awareness trainer ?

BG2015 · 19/07/2025 19:52

I’m starting the training in 3 weeks. I applied back in February via a company called TTC.

Fraudornot · 19/07/2025 20:48

Congratulations and it sounds like you have a wise retirement organised and a long summer ahead without going back in September! Enjoy!

Rictasmorticia · 19/07/2025 20:49

You sound really lovely. I hope you live a long and healthy life to enjoy your well-earned retirement.
