Teachers pension

Does anyone understand how do the teachers pension work? My friend is a TA and she doesn’t know; she said her colleagues don’t know either and some of them not doing contributions either. She has been a TA for 10 years

TAs aren’t in the teachers pension, she’s likely part of a local government pension scheme, although if she’s at an academy she might not be. She needs to talk to school HR.

Thank you; that is useful. She is paying into the people pension so I guess it is definite contributions.

If she's paying into The People's Pension, she's surely already aware that she's not in Teachers' Pensions or a Local Government Pension Scheme.

Does she have a log in for her account on The People's Pension? They'll have a lot of information she can access on their website.

That's a pension pot, defined contribution.

TA's aren't in the teachers pension scheme.

Sounds like her school/academy have gone for a different pension scheme rather than LGPS - due to cost. I haven't looked but I am sure it won't be a great scheme in comparison. I'd be looking to change jobs and get on the LGPS instead.
TAs are in demand, know your worth!

Local government pension scheme

Thank you. Can she still be part of this as a TA?

Thanks, how much is the LGPS?

She can if the school offers it, schools run by the local authority will, but academies can do their own thing, as can private schools. She needs to talk to HR. I don’t know much about it, I’m a teacher, so my contract is different.

Starlightbrightens · 17/02/2025 14:52

Will ask my friend to look into it and ask HR

Thank you
