Only 27 days to go!

Not that I'm counting or anything. But only 27 days. And on the last day is my retirement lunch. I have been working for 50 years and I cannot believe that it's finally coming to an end. I am so very ready! I will have the time to look after my stroke survivor DH properly, I'll get to talk to the neighbours instead of dashing past them in a hurry, I'll have time. That's the biggest thing of all - I'll have time. Chuck the clocks out and do what we want to do because we want to do it.

Having time is amazing, congratulations OP! 50 years is a long old slog, enjoy your very deserved retirement!

Scottishflower65 · 03/06/2022 09:22

I’m not counting the days either (851 😂). I’m so ready too. Hope it’s everything you hope for - enjoy!

flapjackfairy · 03/06/2022 09:48

Aw that's great. Enjoy x

FlipFlops4Me · 03/06/2022 09:51

Thank you! Like you say, it's been a long old slog - and so much of it is just a blur. I've had 5 employers in all that time - two short term, three long term and the best was the one I worked for from 1995 to 2016 when they folded the business, and handed me over to my current employer (like pass the parcel, I think). I've been lucky to work for really good hearted people but even that isn't enough to make me stay!

DH retires at the end of July, and I retired early during lockdown, we have all our ducks in a row and can't bloody wait.

Congratulations! I went in summer of 18. Best little thingy... if you go on holiday, you don't dread the return... Like your last day isn't spent thinking about what you are coming back to. Grin

CoQ10 · 05/06/2022 21:16

Good for you and enjoy the last few days!! Sounds like you've had a great career and equally deserve the upcoming retirement.
Do you mind me asking how old you are?

I have spent this morning sourcing tickets for the theatre in the west end in the middle of the week, they very thought of it. 😂

Well I am not booking it until I have checked with people here and if it has the MN seal of approval off we go.

FinallyFluid · 06/06/2022 13:25

The very thought of it even...... Grin

BestIsWest · 06/06/2022 13:57

Go for it!

echt · 07/06/2022 09:06

All the very best< FlipFlops4me. I retired at the end of last year at 67 and have loved every minute of it. Like so many others, I'm so busy I can't think how I ever fitted work in!

It can never be what I wanted entirely, as my lovely DH died nearly six years ago, but still it has been happy.

Astrabees · 15/06/2022 16:28

Congratulations! only 45 days for me. It is so full on at work I'm getting worried about handing over but I've stuck this job out for 17 years and worked constantly since I was 21 - 45 years - with only 10 weeks off with each baby (2)
so I reckon I deserve it.
