Things I got right when I retired.

I played no part at all in the appointment of my successor. But once they had been appointed we worked closely together to ensure a smooth transfer.
I have long-standing hobbies and friends outside the field in which I worked (education).
I retired before I was 60 as the years from then on are the "killer years" in terms of reducing life expectancy.
I was, I hope, generous with gratitude and with praise in my short leaving speech.
I was, I hope, supportive of my Vice-Principal who had expected to get the job but didn't.
I didn't expect my wife to change her weekly routine just because I had retired

I can add to the list - I have never been back to the college since I retired and I have resisted the temptation to write letters to the local paper when educational provision in the town is being discussed!
