We DIDN'T call him Gerard

Don't know if anyhone will remember my post a few months back. My MIL trying to insist that we called ds-to-be Gerard.

Well........

We didn't. We went for Anthony (only name that me and dh could agree on) and I feel fantastic about it.

MIL reacted very badly and didn't come to see the baby for four days (may not sound a long time, but it was for her).

Can't help but laugh though as she is trying to signal her disapproval by refusing to organise the christening which we never wanted in the first place.

Things are still a bit frosty and I do feel bad for dh who is a bit stuck in the middle. Am proud of him though. He went to register the birth and I have to admit that until I saw the birth certificate there was a tiny part of me that was worried he would give in to his mother.

Thanks to all for help and support.

You are welcome, I remember the thread.

Hurray!
VERY pleased that your DH did not cave in! Well done.

I was so keen to find out what had happened about this that I started a thread asking about it, a couple of months ago!

LOL at her refusal to organise the christening!

Blu · 05/08/2005 15:42

And, of course, CONGRATULATIONS on the birth of little Anthony!

Tommy · 05/08/2005 15:42

I remember it too. Well done laughorcry - MILs eh?!

Kelly1978 · 05/08/2005 15:45

I remember that too, congrats on little anthony! Much nicer name.

Gobbledigook · 05/08/2005 15:45

OMG - your MIL is having a strop cos you didn't call your ds the name she wanted?! Eh?!

Well you definitely did the right thing and Anthony is a lovely name - my Grandad and my ds3's middle name

frogs · 05/08/2005 15:47

I remember you, too. Congratulations on your baby and standing up to your MIL.

Way to go, girl!

Blu · 05/08/2005 15:51

that has hiven me an evil daydream of ringing MIL and saying that we called him Gerard after all, then expressing surprise when she talks about the baby and telling her we meant the toad.

but I couldn't do that.

even to my MIL.

probably.

laughorcry · 05/08/2005 16:00

sorry - given me an evil idea.

What a cheek! Acting like a three-year-old b/c she couldn't name a child that's not even hers!

Too bad she can't go away and stay away .

Why did she want 'Gerard'? It's not a name I'd chose for my son, either, but aside from that it's none of her business.

Blu · 05/08/2005 16:25

laughorcry - this is the maddest 'birth announcement' MN has ever seen! 'My baby is not called Gerard' LOL!

lilibet · 05/08/2005 16:29

I remeber that thread!

Well done to you and dh for sticking to your guns

and welcome to the world Anthony

Gizmo · 05/08/2005 16:36

Laughorcry

Is there a middle name yet? Could he be Antony Notgerard, just to really make the point?

As you might have guessed, subtlety is not my forte!

Blu · 05/08/2005 16:40

Anthony OurToad'sCalledGerard Surname?

Blu · 05/08/2005 16:41

Actaully if you pronounce 'Notgerard' in a v french way, with a silent 't', it sounds quite good!

puff · 05/08/2005 16:49

Hurrah!!!

I remember the thread too.

Well done to you and your dh.

bran · 05/08/2005 17:36

I remember this thread, and I did wonder how it would turn out. I'm glad it's good news and well done to your dh for standing up to his mum. Anthony is a lovely name, congratulations on your baby boy.

logic · 05/08/2005 17:49

Congratulations and well done on standing up to her!

franke · 05/08/2005 17:57

I didn't see the original thread but this has made me lol Your mil is barmy. I think mumsnet should do a book of mil anecdotes. Congrats on little Anthony btw - v. nice name.

Maybe you could adopt a hippo at a wildlife park and call that Gerard (isn't that how Reggie Perrin used to imagine his mil?)

I remember that thread. Well done. Can't believe your MIL would allow pique to get in the way of her seeing her grandchild.
