Janbo25 · 03/08/2005 11:51

Anyone recommend any condoms that don't feel to plastic and give more of a natural feel?

durex elite or fetherlite ones are quite good.

Janbo25 · 03/08/2005 12:02

Gobbledigook · 03/08/2005 12:02

Nope - all crap.

Janbo25 · 03/08/2005 12:03

Gobbledigook · 03/08/2005 12:05

Sorry - not helpful I know. I don't know which are best - I've gone back on pill now cos I hate them so much (not very reliable either).

Janbo25 · 03/08/2005 12:06

i know i agree i hate them to! just can't decide on the right method of contaception at the mo, I'm terrible at remembering to take the pill

what is the feeling like?

A coil is inserted into your womb via your cervix by the Dr. Some thread dangle down that you can feel (though I couldn't feel mine!) and you have to be checked once a year. I think it works by stopping the egg embedding in the womb. You can leave it in for 5 years I think and just forget about it. My periods were a bit heavier but not much.

Janbo25 · 03/08/2005 12:57

not sure i like the sound of that!, is the thread permantly hanging down then?

OP posts:
Listmaker · 03/08/2005 13:15

The threads curl round your cervix - you can't see them!!! Or feel them. I liked it because you could be spontaneous and have no worries. It was a bit painful having it put in and taken out but then I had two planned c-sections so my cervix had never been opened which made it worse I think. Nothing too bad though.

Janbo25 · 03/08/2005 13:17

i had a natural birth so presume it may be easier?? I must agree that I like the spontaneous bit, someone else recomeended the diaphragm but that sounded as tedious as the condom?

Durex do a latex-free condom called Avent, I preferred it because the latex ones stink to high heaven and make me itchy, I also thought they felt nicer than the standard ones but dh found them really hard to put on.

Janbo25 · 03/08/2005 13:20

they sound quite good, what actually is latex anyway?

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 03/08/2005 13:21

No, they aren't called Avent ... they're called Avanti. Sorry ...

WigWamBam · 03/08/2005 13:22

Latex is rubber.

Janbo25 · 03/08/2005 13:23

you're getting confused with baby gear just what we are trying to prevent ! lol

if they are rubber free then whats actually in them?

OP posts:
Gillian76 · 03/08/2005 13:23

Would be worried about using Avent condons, WWW. They might have a conflict of interests !

Listmaker · 03/08/2005 13:24

I used to have a cap (is that the same as a diaphragm??) years and years ago. It was OK but yes you have to stop and put it in complete with spermicide and then leave it in for 8 hours. As I was 21 and in my first full on sexual relationship it was never out for long!!!!! Great for sex whilst having a period though!!!

Janbo25 · 03/08/2005 13:24

hhaha i agree

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 03/08/2005 13:27

Gillian - yes, I know ... you can tell where my brain has been since I had dd, can't you

Avanti are made from polyurethane rather than rubber, so they're lighter.
