my dh and me have split ,i want a divorce how do i go about it ,and whats the cost as im on benifits any advice please

i am not divorced just considering but have been reading a lot.
first see if you can get a free session with a solicitor for an hour. as you are on benefits you may be entitled to legal aid, which a solicitor can advise and citizens advice may also be able to. on the direct gov website there is a setion on divorce also visit wikivorce website there is lots of usful info on there.
if you have any doubts dont rush. but in the meantime at least you can look into it. HTH.
there are also different grouds for divorce, adultery, 2 yrs seperation if you both agree, unreasonable behaviour (i think you have to have 5 examples) but i am not legally trained so have a free hour with a solicitor and take it from there.look in yellow pages and ring around

Hi am just starting divorce proceedings myself and although it was daunting at first the solicitor put me at ease. On what grounds are you looking to divorce on...I was hoping to wait the 2 years seperation but after a year I keep getting threats of him moving back in and I need closure to be able to move on. Citizens Advice is a great place to start..or perhaps someone can reccommend a solicitor that they have had good dealings with. Mkae sure you go prepared with questions to ask if they are charging by the hour and have paperwork with you..income, mortgage statement, property valuations, (possibly 3 independent ones), pension details and life insurances so that that they can take as much info. as possible. If you are not entitled to legal aid ask their fees. Mine is working on a flat fee so everything is covered. Hope this helps
