Anyone compare themselves unfavourably with their exes new gf?

I know it is unhealthy, but some of my exes have gone on to find fabulous new girlfriends and it makes me feel shit about myself.

I always think ''I bet he is glad to be rid of me now he has got thin, rich, successful fabulous, younger girl on his arm.''

I know IABU and I have self-esteem issues.

I'm doing the same thing

BelleDameSansMerci · 09/02/2010 20:59

I think it's human nature to do this. My exes (and there are many of them!) often go on to marry the girl/woman they dated after me. It's like I prepare them or perhaps I'm so ghastly that anyone else is bliss in comparison.

elastamum · 09/02/2010 21:10

My ex is marrying his new GF who looks a bit too much like me for comfort. But she is much better scrubbed up, a lot better dressed and also a lot more controlling than me. The kids say they are always arguing!! Personally he is welcome to her and she to him, they make a lovely couple

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 09/02/2010 21:13

Belle - I have the same problem. I think I should start a business doing it.

Whizzywigg · 09/02/2010 21:19

My exes are all so scary that when I finally manage to escape, I never keep in touch long enough to find out what they do next.

Is that better or worse?

motherlovebone · 09/02/2010 21:31

to others you are probably fabulous / thin / successful.

we are our harshest critics.

BelleDameSansMerci · 09/02/2010 22:05

Lou let's collaborate on a book - we could make a fortune! "How To Spot When He's Ready For Marriage". Quite short: have Lou or Belle just dumped him/been dumped? Yep, you'll have him up the aisle within a year!

Janos · 09/02/2010 22:15

No, I've never done this.

Having said that I do think I am probably quite difficult to deal with so someone more 'normal' is probably a bit of a relief

Janos · 09/02/2010 22:16

Also XP married the one after me (actually there was an overlap but we'll let that lie for now).

My reaction is - thank god it's her and not me!

elastamum · 09/02/2010 22:18

I was married to my ex for 10 years. Not looking for a new one though!

ninah · 09/02/2010 23:39

No, not a book. A consultancy. Lend Us Your Committment Phobe Boyfriend for a year and We'll Break him Down for Marriage
bit labour intensive, would have be to be top of the range clients only

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 10/02/2010 10:39

Im keen on a consultancy and then a few years later write a book to cash in even more. The thing is I never try to change them (well not in a scary Jeremy Kyle way, just hints about clothes) it just happens.
The worst thing is is that I stay friends with them and get invited to the weddings!!

nikki1978 · 10/02/2010 11:18

My last ex before DH would never commit to me and was always on at me to lose weight. Shockingly he married a thinner, meeker version of me. Same hair (curly) although she was a brunette and a few months after they got together her hair was blonde like mine and her eyes blue like mine. Was a bit creepy actually. She is now pregnant with a boy and if they call it the name he and I once said we would call our first child I will be majorly creeped out!

Most of my other ex's have ended up friends although I always noticed they ended up with someone thinner and prettier after me..... or maybe you are right in saying that we are our own worst critic ;)

rockmum80 · 10/02/2010 11:38

My ex's girlfriend looks a bit like me.

She is younger though.

titferbrains · 10/02/2010 12:32

Don't worry, my ex is in his early 30s like me and has been seeing a lady who is almost 50 for some time now. Still makes me feel a bit funny when I think about it.
