I'm not but my kid has his Dad here 1st time in 10 yrs so I'm tking a backseat and they've disappeared off to his room.

Tip I'd have is do a man type thing and disappear off to the pub or try Salvation Army see if they need any help serving Xmas lunch it's usually a great atmosphere!

I'm getting by, thanks Riven. Finding today a bit tricky. Looking forward to a New Year and a fresh start.

Merry christmas desolate, thinking of you

deste · 25/12/2009 12:21

Merry Christmas Desolate, just eat nice food, have a drink and be positive, it can only get better.

sincitylover · 25/12/2009 12:36

Desolate - have you got anything planned for rest of hols?

I'm alone tomorrow but quite looking forward to it.

Keep posting on mumsnet

Think you might live near to me - if you do a walk by the river is always good esp on a sunny day. I did this last Boxing Day did a 2-3 mile walk.

Other tips - plan something nice to do in 2010. Break in warm country.

You have a blank slate to start 2010 and things can change in an instant.

If you have spare cash shopping is good.

I had to spend three days in Paris in 2008 feeling quite heartbroken and just sort of wallowed in it.

domesticslattern · 25/12/2009 12:41

Hi Desolate, a Very Merry Christmas to You, and roll on the New Year I say. I have a feeling you're going to have a much better 2010 than 2009.

BistoBear · 25/12/2009 13:03

I'll second SinCity's idea of going for a walk - that's what I'll be doing shortly. Everyone's always happy in the park on Christmas day, hopefully some of that happiness will rub off!

Anniegetyourgun · 25/12/2009 15:44

I'm not alone. I have DS2 and 4 with me, and we're just finishing dinner whilst looking up soppy Christmas songs on Youtube. XH came round earlier for a coffee and a mince pie, and inspected DS4's presents with proper interest. All very civilised.

Flightattendant · 25/12/2009 16:00

Yes apart from the kids.

Can't stand the idea of going out as there are families everywhere, it feels even worse!

Luckily we all went to my parents' this morning for a while, which was OK. Ds2 was awake all night with temp of about 39.5 and ds1 woke at 2, then 4 when we got up out of desperation. So they have been stroppy all day and I am in a state about something else so it's been pretty crap.

Sorry you are on your own...does that include children? That must be really tough, thinking of you x

desolate · 25/12/2009 16:47

Flightattendant

Thank you!

No children, just me on my own.

Oh well, at least I can watch what I like on TV....

when we have the kids here we often think what we would do if only we were childfree, never works like that when we are child free.
i am guessing your kids are with their Dad? its hard sharing kids at this time of year i guess.
its just me and my 3 kids today, kids enjoy christmas, i am just glad when its out of the way.
