Swapping numbers in mobile phone, who did it?

RainDontGoAway · 10/12/2009 14:05

There was a clever post on here from someone ages ago who swapped a dodgy number in her blokes phone to her own mobile to catch him out.

Who did it and can anyone point me in the right direction of the thread please?

I've namchanged for a reason btw, if you recognise me, please don't out me.

Was it Shiney's penguin-man thread?

HugeBaublesWhatDidISayRoy · 10/12/2009 14:16

Come on spill, what are you up to/suspicious about?

HugeBaublesWhatDidISayRoy · 10/12/2009 14:17

Actually, i think what she did was, get his phone and put her number into the slot with said 'other persons' name on, but keeping other persons name on it,therefore the naughty person was texting her instead.

RainDontGoAway · 10/12/2009 14:20

Well, I think bloke might be up to something.

I'm considering getting hold of his phone, and replacing a certain woman's number with mine but keeping her name on it. Therfore, when he texts "her", he will actually be texting me.

What worries me however is that if she does text him, it will come up under a different number and he'll twig.

Relationship is over anyway, I just wanna play around for a while and gather the evidence so when he asks why I'm leaving, I can chuck it all at him and watch him stand there looking like a moron.

I remember reading about this too, but it only works if the (other) people are not in constant text contact - otherwise you'll get rumbled pretty quickly. He'll get a text from her showing a phone number and not her name and if this is in between texts that are actually from you - it will be obvious straight away that something's up. The only possible way this might work is if they are on similar body clocks and you manage to intercept the first or last text of the day.

Better to buy a SIM card reader if you're suspicious; this apparently reads the last 20 or so deleted texts, but have yet to hear from someone on here about their actual use.

HugeBaublesWhatDidISayRoy · 10/12/2009 14:23

aah right, i see. Well we need to look into the response bit. i.e if she texts back it will come up as number only.

There was deffo a thread about this before as i remember it. I wonder if you can 'block' her number from texting him back?

We need a phone geek on here sharpish.

DaftApeth · 10/12/2009 14:24

Shame you can't get hold of her phone and put your number in under his name.

Trouble is though, if you text him as you, it will come up as from her. Could you not get hold of a cheap phone/sim card and use that instead?

HugeBaublesWhatDidISayRoy · 10/12/2009 14:25

you could just cut his bollocks off when he is asleep and save yourself the trouble?

Ponders · 10/12/2009 14:25

It's possible to have the same person's name in twice, with different numbers (well it is on mine)

Or you could put your mob number under Home under her name (mine lets me have lots of numbers for 1 person)

Ponders · 10/12/2009 14:27

(I just checked on mine & it let me put in 2 separate entries, with different phone numbers, with the same name.)

Ponders · 10/12/2009 14:28

Oh but he'd notice that, wouldn't he - durr - sorry!

SCargot · 10/12/2009 14:28

and did it work the one mentiuoned in the OP

HugeBaublesWhatDidISayRoy · 10/12/2009 14:34

i believe the one the op is talking about was caught right out..

we need to search back and see if we can find it.

FabIsVeryFestive · 10/12/2009 14:36

Why waste your energy if you are going anyway?

RainDontGoAway · 10/12/2009 14:36

I have a spare mobile number I can use, so he will still be able to text me on the number he knows.

Sim card reader sounds interesting. I just wonder what would happen if I text him from "her" saying "hey babe, you wanna meet up this week?" etc!

HugeBaublesWhatDidISayRoy · 10/12/2009 14:40

get a new sim, text her and say new number with a kiss or however he signs himself. you may get a couple texts back from her before you are rumbled?

StirlingInDaGrotto · 10/12/2009 16:33

I saw some of my h's texts to ow because I changed his settings as he had set his phone up to not save sent texts.

He didn't even check. I used to pick his phone up every day and take a look at sent texts but then delete them so he didn't realise the settings had changed.

Hurts though!

StirlingInDaGrotto · 10/12/2009 16:35

Changing the number will only work short term. You may see one or two texts before they twig what is going on.

Another trick is, if you get chance to use h's phone for a short while, you could send her a text that she will assume is from him and see how she responds. I had great fun doing this one day. I found out loads!

tiredoftherain · 10/12/2009 20:41

I would have done this, but H's mobile was so password protected it would have taken MI5 to get past all the security.. fortunately OW was stupid enough to forward his texts on to her mum (!) so they got caught that way..

SCargot · 10/12/2009 20:44

thi sis so amazingly ingenious and simple
well done clever women

GroundHoHoHogs · 10/12/2009 21:07

"get a new sim, text her and say new number with a kiss or however he signs himself. you may get a couple texts back from her before you are rumbled?"

EVIL! but incomplete mwuhaaa ha ha ha... THEN text HIM from the new SIM signing off how she normally does and tell him the same... so they BOTH text the number....

AnAuntieNotAMum · 10/12/2009 23:58

Do you really want to put yourself through that? It will probably only cause you pain....and he'll probably use it as a base to go around and tell people his ex is an unhinged nutter who stole his phone and swapped numbers.
Better to just keep your dignity and walk away perhaps?
