DP's dopeyness REALLY annoys me

DP doesn't seem to be aware of anything or anyone around him. He acts so gormless at times I really wonder if there is anyone "in" at all.

Like in Asda once, he took a glass jar off the shelf and the rest of the jars went tumbling to the ground. Everyone around gasped so I know I wasn't the only one to notice and DP just walked away with this jar going on about how they were cheaper in Tesco etc! it was as if he really didn't notice that he'd knocked all teh jars down.

Last night he noticed that our Bonsai tree was dry, he rushed over to it, grabbed it off the window-ledge, caught the net curtains, pulled a huge hole in them and knocked another plant off the window-ledge at the same time and still walked off going on about how we need to water it more! I was like "hello? have you see what carnage you have left at the window??" He just doesn't notice.

Sometimes you will be talking to him and the convo will go like this:

me: "So after this uni course I'm thinking of doing ... "
him: "yeah, did I tell you we need more petrol in the car?"
me: "I was just in the middle of saying something!"
him: "hmm it's getting low again, you know ... petrol has gone up in price again? it's ridiculous"

I just feel like punching him and saying "LISTEN YOU GORMLESS FUCKER, I AM SPEAKING, I DONT CARE ABOUT THE PETROL! I WAS ALREADY TALKING" he'd probably reply with "yeah, do you know, I was 10 minutes late for work this morning and nobody noticed!"

Is it ignorence or is something wrong with him or what??

Is it maybe because he is made up?

GypsyMoth · 04/12/2009 16:40

gives you a good excuse to get rid of those net curtains now at least!!

mampam · 04/12/2009 16:58

OMG! it must be like living with one of the Chuckle Brothers!!

Very frustrating if he doesn't even acknowledge your conversation.

Are you called Betty and does he wear a beret?

but on your other thread he is obsessed with fairness
well tell him recking the house is NOT fair

ABetaDad · 04/12/2009 18:06

Gateaux - I have read the other thread on him demanding 'fairness' and also your other thread on your 14 yr old son and the bathroom.

This does sound a lot like an Aspergers spectrum condition which is hereditary and your son may have similar issues.
