Should I or shouldn't I write this book?

I am a keen writer and an idea that has been going around in my head for a while now keeps coming up. Thing is, it involves a character loosely based on me and another character loosely based on a man I know.

DP knows this other man and already suspects this other man has something for me. I know he doesn't, he's just a flirt with everyone. But I really want to write this story.

If DP finds it, he will not be happy. I suppose I wouldn't if the shoe was on the other foot either.

But I'm getting that writers itch for me and I'm finding it difficult to resist. Do I write in secret and hope he never finds it or am I being out of order?

Hmmmmm, I am tempted to say write it but talk to your dp about it. Secrets are not good sometimes.

I long for the time to sit down and write the books I have in me.

I can disguise myself quite well but the bloke will be easily recognisable. If I even mention it to him he'll get upset and think I want to run off with this bloke, it's not like that though, he's just such a great character to use.

Depends - is there any chance it will be published? if you're just writing it for pleasure and no one will see it I'd say go for it but if you intend to launch it on Amazon I would discuss it with your DH first.

Just some thoughts- not sure but are you already a published writer? If not, have you any idea how hard it is to get published?
In other words, are you fretting over something unlikely to happen?

All writers write from their own experience, but as an experienced writer you should be able to either disguise the characters enough so they aren't recognised, or think up new ones!

If what you intend to write is semi autobiographical, and will upset your DH, then I think you have to ask if you really have enough imagination to be a writer,as you should be able to take that person's traits and make them into fiction that won't upset anyone.

One tip once picked up, for avoiding complaints and "Libel!" is to change the sex of those involved. Would that work here, or is so much of it gender-specific?

I agree with everything purplepeony has said. I'd just start writing it, often the characters will take on their own identities anyway. Who's to say your DP would ever read it anyway?

I'm sure I'll never get published I write for pleasure only and in my experience, I never finish anything anyway!

I think I'll just start it and see where it goes. I have a hard enough time trying to get DP to read my stuff when I ask him too, I'm sure he'll never do it off his own back!
