Do you ever wonder what kind of MIL you will be to your children's DH or DW?

I am lucky I don't have a MIL {she died about 20 years ago}

But I think I will be a nightmare MIL as I would only want the best for DS

I am actually a very jealous person so would probably find it hard to keep quiet if my DIL was horrible {in my eyes to my DS}

Does having a nightmare MIL make you think you will be the opposite to yours?

Or not?

Or do you never think about it?

I dont have a MIL either as she died befor I met my DP, but my DP thinks my mum is a pain in the arse, and he also thinks I am turning into her, so draw your own conclusions!!!

I reckon I will be MIL from hell, unless my future DIL is a lovely lassie. Hopefully well into the future, as DS is only 6months

Cos DH says she would have been a complete nightmare {his words not mine}

His parents {used to} and my parents live in next door towns and so it would make our life so complicated.

I'm going to try and be a good MIL, but am concerned that no-one will be good enough for my 2 (esp my furture DIL )

I hope I can learn from my experiences with my mil so that I don't repeat the same annoying behaviour. I won't intrude and try to push my dil out of the picture every thime i'm around regardless of how I feel about her I hope . I hope that ds chooses a lovely girl that I can get along with fine but if he picks a "hard nosed one" (my fil description of me then I'll just have to grin and bear it if I want a good relationship with my grandchildren.

As far as I'm concerned if my baby girl is happy, then I'm happy.

Who am I to judge her chosen one?! I will do all I can to support her and love her, but also let her make her own decisions and mistakes, no matter the outcome. As long as she knows I will be there for her, that's all that matters.

I'm not going to be a MIL because my kids are NEVER going to marry.....!!!!!!!

My son is going to marry me and my daughter is going to marry DH, apparently - so really I've got nothing to worry about

I wonder if it is easier to let a DD get married than a DS

I think maybe you feel you still have a DD but a DS is lost to the DW

Sounds like I am not totally alone in thinking no one will be good enough for my DS

I was thinking about this the other day . I have one dd and am pregnant with no.2 but do not know the sex yet. I was thinking that i'd be fine with my daughter's husband partner but if i had a son i think i would secretly resent another woman coming into his life and i think this could be reversed for my dp.

I'll be a know all contrary cow I think!!!!!!!!!!!

In reality I would love to be an understanding, close, but not too close friend!

Still as my plan is to emulate my mother and incorporate a lot of travel, I'll be............

Whenever my MIL or FIL is...themselves...I remind myself that they are providing good examples of behaviour that I must avoid.

But really, I cannot IMAGINE going through my son (and DIL's) very private belongings in order to locate and iron all his underwear. It just isn't something that it would occur to me to do. I'm much too lazy. (this has now happened so many times and she just doesn't seem to understand that it is not just interfering but weird).

I shall be far too busy eating chocolate and drinking too much and staying out late to do any interfering at all.

When my friend's MIL comes to stay, she goes through all the luandry and irons my friend's DH's stuff only!

Ironing seems to be a ongoing theme with MIL

I will deffo not do that I hate ironing now can't believe that will change

i will never be a mil as dp will NOT let it happen lol she might be allowed a boyfriend by the time she is 40 but thats a big might lol

my mil does all my laundry and ironing hwne she comes to stay but always asked initially -now she knwos its her job!

I cook her yummy stuff and take her out shopping

was in court wiht a woman who has three grown up boys and she was saying how much she loved all her daughters in law - how sweet they were toher ( not hard as she is really nice) and how much she respected i f nto fully understood their wahm choices ( well in one case)

she agreed that basically she was pleased that soemone loved her little boys as much as she did

found this REALLY heartwarming

oh, fishfinger, I hope I could be as good as that woman, but I doubt it.

I have two DSes, and I do dread dealing with all this. Already, DS1 is planning to marry a girl I don't like as much as the girl he was engaged to before. Although I like the new one ok.

Well, he's not four yet, I expect he'll change his mind a few more times.
