How did your DH propose? Or was it you who did?

Hi everyone,

I'm having a bit of a melancholic Saturday evening, far away from my DP, and would love to hear some romantic stories.

So this one goes for those of you who are married. Who proposed? How, when and in which circumstances did it happen? Any funny/uncommon story to share?

And before someone jumps at me, no, I'm not a "journo"

Hugs to all!

Aurynne

I felt the same pippy. We had 18 of our closest friends and family. It was lovely, so intimate. Only the people I care about were there, but are you sure you don't want the DC there? Mine still talk about "when mummy and daddy got married" all the time. So glad they could share the day with us.

DH - on the phone from Saudi Arabia!

I asked him when we were getting married. He asked why? and I told him I had been offered a flat. We got engaged and married within 6 months. The rent was under £1.00 a week and that was 38 years ago.

pippy - many congratulations.

I really wish we had done what you are planning. It is the only thing I would change in the last 25 years of our relationship.

Mrmump - I would like the children there waving flags but they are only 4 and 2 so not sure that they would remember when mummy and daddy got married.

We are going back to the city where lived and we spent lots of happy years pre-kids, a couple of our best friends are being our witnesses. We are getting married on my birthday as we got together on my 21st so thought getting married on my 40th would be fitting full circle.

Sure we are having a great big party next summer to make sure everyone remembers!

I did the birthday thing as well... so everyone concentrated on the wedding, not my age!

I inherited my Great-Granmothers engagement and wedding rings when she died. DH and I knew we would get married one day; this was decided when we were 18 and 19 and had known each other 3 months
So there was never going to be an element of surprise.

A few days after my 21st birthday (which was quite a let down, save for then boyfriend) and we were dancing around our living room around 2am when I turned to him and said "ask me." So he went to get the ring, got down on one knee, asked and I said yes.

Its our 1st wedding anniversary this Hallowe'en!

I had just finished work and called my DH to see if he would come and pick me up but he asked if I could make my own way back. When I got home, he asked if I wanted to go for a drive as we didn't have the kids for a couple of days. I thought it would be nice and so we ended up driving up to the lakes, we got to Lake Windermere and drove around for awhile and went on the ferry. As the sun was setting he decided he wanted to go for a walk and we parked up by the lake and went for a walk onto a jetty where I was more worried about him pushing me into the lake than anything else (he's that kind of person) when I turned back round from looking around for something to hold onto he got down on one knee and proposed to me with a beautiful ring that fitted me perfectly. He then went onto plan the whole of the wedding without me knowing anything and that also ended up just as I wanted it, bless him, he's a good un!

We were in Venice for our six month "anniversary", and DP proposed under the Rialto Bridge, totally took me by surprise, and we chose a ring together at a visiting antique market there which is just beautiful and very unusual. It really couldn't have been more perfect, I felt completely blissed out
