Is there a good reason not to take your passport on a business trip to Europe?

Just that really. A married man, telling his wife he has to spend 2 nights a week in main land Europe for the foreseeable future, while a troublesome job is completed.

After the first trip she realised he hadn't asked her to find his passport, and whilst he's an intelligent man she would usually do such things for him. 2nd time, she checked the drawer while he was away and the passport was still there. Trying to be positive for her, but I can't think of a decent explanation.

She doesn't want to confront him because she "trusts him", but also, I suspect because she doesn't really want to know.

So, if he had 2 and was nipping between Iran and Tel Aviv, he'd be telling her which one he wanted fettling out, wouldn't he? But he doesn't, 'cos he hasn't.

OP- you coming back????

notgettinganyyounger · 22/09/2009 13:40

ok, now read it right through and see what you mean about the dh in question.

I would be concerned about what he is up to, but needed to confirm that there is a possibility that he is using a 2nd passport. Unlikely that he is having read this though.

GrendelsMum · 27/09/2009 13:41

Did she find out what the situation was in the end? I hope everything's okay/

When I mentioned it to my DH (who'd just come back from a business trip) his first reaction was "so the guy's got two passports."

clam · 27/09/2009 14:33

How common, or easy, is it to have two passports? I understand about the Middle Easat/Israel thing, but how do you prove intent to travel there? Do you just write to the passport office and say, please may I have another one?

Seriously, I'm curious.

CNyle · 27/09/2009 14:34

Wigeon · 14/10/2009 21:59

CantThinkofFunnyName · 22/10/2009 19:44

i missed this thread the first time around.

But i have a friend who is a German national who i have flown with to Austria via Heathrow, and she only used a German ID card to travel with and it wasn't a problem. (This was about a yr ago)

I guess there is no UK equivalent to a National ID card is there if this husband is British? Unless he has dual nationality, or two Brit passports which my FIL had for many yrs for the business travel reasons already mentioned.
