Yikes - Anniversary tomorrow...

Girls, I need some guidance here... 9th Anniversary tomorrow. We agreed to go out on Friday night, since DW & I both work full time. So, I have the card a small box of some really VERY yummy chocs for tomorrow morning (I'll leave them on the breakfast table for her since I am on a train by 6am). BUT I haven't bought the present I intended to yet. I can get it at the weekend.

Is that completely rubbish and unromantic of me?

Just wondered. Blokes seem to get this sort of thing upside down quite a lot :-)

I think it depends on what your dw would normally expect.

For me, DH always gets me rubbish magazines, a couple of books and a couple of cds as a warm up present. Then he takes me out for dinner when it's convenient and presents the main gift.

If your DW expects a lot, she may be disappointed with the small box of choccies and the card. Some women would think it was the dogs bolleaux. It depends on expectations.

I'm sure you'll get it right though. If you're bothered enough to post on a public forum about it, you clearly are a very thougtful chap!

well, at least you PLAN to get her something AND you got a card and some chocs

maybe write a note in the card to tell her another surprise on way at weekend (what is it btw - just nosy!!!)

but, for future reference, a bit more planning and buying teh pressie the weekend before rather than teh weekend after would make you PERFECT!!!

ps - if she is narked - tell her there are women out here whose DH's regularly forget the anniversary totally, and thats not after decades either

Just didn't want to do that thing where DH thinks its all tikerty tonk, then unwittingly upsets DW by missing something that is either a) obvious once explained or b) completely baffling despite explanation. Am good at that sometimes! Problem is DW low maintainance so she'd never tell me if I had goofed.

DW not materialistic so box containing 4 chocs not an issue.

There is time to order online and get it expressed delivery then if it doesn't arrive before friday night it might come sat am and if it still doesn't it is out of your hands = not your fault?

On the assumption DW won't look at MN (if you are looking at this, DW - aka Sarah - bugger off and avert your nosey eyes), the gift will be a set of earrings that she said she loved when seen in a magazine, and a pair of specially made frames with some nice family photos I took on our last 2 holidays (even if I do say so myself ).

regularly - My main pressie is usually something we need as a family, eg, a camera one year, a dvd recorder another, so definitely sounds grander than it is.

Mind you...this year I got 3 days at Featherdown Farm and a DSI (cos I envied dd's and kept using it for my DS Health Coach).

Cripes! That's impressive. It's our 8th wedding aniversary tomorrow. Generally we both forget, but this time to celebrate both of us remembering, we are dumping DD on the grandparents and I am taking the day off work (DH is currently a SAHD)

If I was your DW I'd be impressed with the chocs let alone the earrings.

Def think you should try and give her the earrings just before she goes out on the friday night. The photo's I'm sure she won't mind getting the next day especially when she thinks she has already had her presents Personally I'd be a bit miffed to get given earrings the day after I could have worn them out iyswim?

Tell her the anniversary is not just a single day, oh no, this year it is a 5 day festival of celebrations...so you'd better plan something for Thursday as well.

regularly: actually we usually get things for the both of us, or the house. I try to get pictures to hang on walls most years + something else.

A few years ago I was presented with... a large leather laundry basket. So I went out and bought myself a new iPod after saying how thoughtful and imaginative DW had been. Then I spanked her, of course, for buying a rubbish present. A few years on, she has been vindicated because as it turns out the kids love to hide in it...

MA-AN you are a goodie - yes, try to give her earrings before night out. sidle up behind her when she is getting ready and put them on her. give her kiss on neck as you do. Oooh- er - does that only happen in Tiffany's adverts? (Can you tell I have never had a romantic thoughtful gift in all my days )

squilly - great gifts - howver I misread your DSI and thought it was DS1 - great gift it would have been and definately one for the family!!!

OK so here's the thing - I have the frames already but the earrings were out of stock and will be at the shop on saturday. Can't go out on Saturday as I said I make a fruit cake with DCs in the evening (never done it before, bit worried) and any way no babysitting.

Grrr. Giving the earrings to wear on fri would have been much better.

i just love that folk buy anniversary pressies - I think it is really lovely. SOmething for the wall, a framed photo, something for you both, earrings I think it is all lovely. Teaful emoticon (think am a little overemotional today )

quid - I just KNEW (taps side of nose) - possibly cos I would love some!! and I read your profile and saw where you live and my dBIL who lives there always buys tiffany for my sis and I always turn - well no, am sort of getting used to it all now.

shame you can't get them in time, but hey. could you change night out to Saturday???

Regularly - DW loved the frames, but I said nothing about the small blue bag due on Sat. I cooked favourite meal (how predicatable is that?) and we just chatted for ages. Was really nice in fact.

I got a card. And a distinct lack of underwear beneath dress Simple creatures, men.
