Have got an application for council housing being posted out, have called tax credits to change it from 'our' claim, to mine, have just applied for a bank account to have any benefits payed into, other than sorting stuff out to do with schools (will be moving back down south to near my family), and obviously we have a house to sell (anyone want it?!!) no savings or anything, is there anything I've not thought of?

BTW, this isn't a thread for asking if I'm OK on! I'm fine, just need to get the practical stuff sorted out.

Make sure if any utility bills are in your name that you get that changed before you move out of the house.

Nope all bills are in his name, only joint one is the mortgage, oh and the telly license is in my name for some reason Will get onto it thanks.

not sure of the history behind your move but have you got important papers at trusted friend's house? things like passports, birth certificates etc

I'm gathering you'll need to sort some agreement for DH to see the DC's? can that be done in a civilized way without the need for courts etc? If not you may need to get the ball rolling on that as soon as you've moved down south.

Well they are sending the application form, so once I can get it back to them, then we'll be off. Am hoping I can get DS1 into school down there as close to the start of the next half term as possible.

I hated always being the 'new girl' (dad in army - constantly moving about) want him to go in and get it over with before Septemeber start back.

sounds like you have most things covered. Only things I can think of are council tax,water,gas/electric, tv,car insurences, other insurances, any medical/dental, savings/bank accounts/ sort something out with mortgage company ( even if it's just letting them know), any loans or finance.

can't think of much more..

With the mortgage, is it as simple as me taking my name off of it? I've, personally, never paid a penny into it, don't want the house, not interested in it at all, so if that makes it better from the point of view of getting re-housed?

Obviously he can do what with it, sell it or stay, that's up to him.

i'm not sure. i think it would probably be quite easy. i mean people split up or one partner dies everyday.

Also a friend who split up with her dp got him to send a letter to the council saying he wanted her out asap. He didn't mind her staying for a while but it got her a house quicker.

If he's agreed to take responsibility for any debt you have jointly the contact those companies too.
With the house I think you'd have to speak to the mortgage lender, as I suspect if it's a joint debt, then the deeds will be the same and will need a solicitor to change them

Might you be better seeking a separation agreement which can lay all these things out formally, as well as custody, maintenance etc?
