I think this is one of the unanswerables. Everyone around us seems to be getting huge new TVs (and satellite) and I am trying to stand my ground to continue with our 21" and 5 channels until it busts. Its five years old and abused by DS so who knows when that will be.

Oh edgarcat don't let DH find out! This 21 inch is our main one with a 14 inch in the bedroom.

Actually I think 21 inch is maybe a bit small for our living room (struggle to see teletext from the other end of the room) but it was bought to suit our previous house. Next time I will be arguing (fruitlessly) for 25 inches.

iota · 23/04/2003 15:03

mine ordered a 32 inch one without telling me - did he think I wouldn't notice?

LadyP · 23/04/2003 15:52

Same thing happend to me, iota.

On his day off, dh called me at work to ask me if I would be in later on in the week to accept a delivery. I thought it was going to be for the tall fridge-freezer that I wanted, but it was for a 32 inch wide screeen, surround sound, etc, etc TV.

Although, in hindsight, he definately made the right decision - it's not only a boys toy

morocco · 23/04/2003 16:06

and why does the sound have to be on so loud that even the next door neighbours are deafened?

Metrobaby · 23/04/2003 16:25

All this talk of inches is a bit misleading. I used to think 21 inches (or 28,32,14 or whatever) meant the width of the screen - however then I was informed it meant the diagonal meassurement - which of course is a bigger figure than the width ...

mum2toby · 23/04/2003 16:28

Men are always trying to mislead us when it comes tyo inches!!! LOL

Crunchie · 23/04/2003 16:56

edgarcat, it is like bonnets on cars, the longer the bonnet.....

However I can't complain, I had a 24" one when I first bought a flat, when it went pop I wanted the huge flat screen jobby! We have 28", as 32 would have been just too big, and I do love it. Our kitchen one is 14" and I can't wait for it to go pop too, then I'll insist on a bigger one, with a built in DVD!!

spacemonkey · 23/04/2003 17:10

my dp bought us a 40 inch TV - I don't care if it's a penis extension, it's fabulous!

lou33 · 23/04/2003 17:20

I like big ones too!

Dahlia · 23/04/2003 17:35

Ours looks like a space pod that has landed here by mistake. It goes beautfully with the stereo system which I am not allowed to touch without wearing surgical gloves.

spacemonkey · 23/04/2003 18:02

hehe lou33

WideWebWitch · 23/04/2003 18:02

I used to be a bit snotty about dp's big Tv but have to admit, after watching a few films with surround sound etc, I've come round and now think it's ugly but useful. It absolutely wouldn't have occurred to me to buy it though.

Tinker · 23/04/2003 18:40

I've only got a 14" one in the living room and none elsewhere. And no cable/satellite/Sky (bleugh!!!) Must admit, hard to read the questions on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. But no, I shall stand firm. Had a mobile foisted on me, must resist, must resist.

Rhiannon · 23/04/2003 18:44

Ours is 50" but he's now desperate for a plasma, sad isn't it? At least he doesn't drink or smoke!

doormat · 23/04/2003 18:49

I like big T.V's too.Bigger the better as you have less to focus on when dozing off!!!!!
I love Sky. could not live without it.it is even in my kitchen!!!!
I also like what Lou33 likes.

clucks · 23/04/2003 22:23

We have this discussion currently and he is desperate for our 21" to die for an excuse. Told him definitely cannot afford plasma screen and widescreens stretch everything funny.

What's the point in a big telly when all you're allowed to watch is the tweenies or football.

SimonHoward · 24/04/2003 07:20

Mum2toby

I'll have you know I have never misled anyone about inches.

Lou33

That is TV's right?

mum2toby · 24/04/2003 07:43

Well well well SH - you've been awfully quiet lately!

My 23" TV just broke 2 days ago and we've had to put our spare 14" in it's place. It does look a bit daft! Size DOES matter!!!!

breeze · 24/04/2003 08:53

If you two are to continue, please do so privately. thanks

Zoe · 24/04/2003 20:39

Why when I read the title of this thread did I think that someone was going to tell us the story of her husband's illicit affair with a six foot seven transvestite???

(we have a big one btw - but then my dh has size 12 feet...)

SimonHoward · 25/04/2003 07:26

Mum2Toby

Things have been busy.

So much to do and so little time to do it in.

But we won't talk about that here .

Zoe

I never thought of it that way.

Tortington · 25/04/2003 23:49
