PLEASE please sign the petition, which has been signed by Amnesty and which will be taken to the UAE Embassy in London, calling for the immediate release of Marnie from prison in Dubai and for the deportation order to be lifted so that Marnie can be near her children - and encourage all those you know to sign! (It only takes a minute!!)

www.thepetitionsite.com/14/freedom-for-marnie-pearce

Marnie is currently unfairly imprisoned in Dubai on charges of adultery after being framed by her Egyptian ex-husband so that he could gain sole custody of their children, ages 4 and 7. Her ex-husband has now been awarded full custody as under Shariah law a woman automatically loses custody of her children if she is found guilty of adultery, as she is deemed to be an unfit mother... Marnie is set to be deported from Dubai to the UK without her children after completing her sentence in a month's time and faces not seeing her boys again until they are legally able to find her at the age of 18.

The British government has done virtually nothing to help Marnie and we now also need to put pressure on the Foreign Secretary to do the right thing and intervene in this situation on behalf of Marnie and her children!

Please email the Foreign Secretary David Miliband, his email address is [email protected]

Time is running out for Marnie - please sign the petition - it now has 1,617 signatures - it would be good to have a few more!

I have signed it, and with respect, I don't fully understand what is being asked of the FO?

Clearly she needs help, but with most campaigns, there is a focus, such as 'ensure she gets a retrial' or 'ensure the children remain with their mother..'

BizzieLizzie1 · 06/04/2009 17:10

Hi I, Marnie is a friend of my sister in law and I trying to do what I can to help the campaign, but I am not actually one of Marnie's official campaign team so can only give you my understanding which is that the petition is to ask for the release of Marnie and for the deportation order to be lifted, so that Marnie is able to remain in Dubai and fight the custody order - and that the FCO are being asked to step up their action via diplomatic channels, because at the moment they seem to be quietly mumbling into their hands and nothing more. Marnie is unable to fight her corner and fight for the rights of her children, the prison regime will not allow this, and this is why the FCO are being asked to step in.

And any MP you email about it replies that they can't tell you anything because minors are involved. (which is fair enough) but it doesn't seem to be getting enough publicity to me.

The whole issue is that whether or not she is guilty, will serve her sentence etc, is that once the sentence has been served she will be immediately deported and lose custody of the children.
