Does anyone else have more fun on here than in real life? Or am I total loser?

It occurred to me just now. My life, and my friends lives are so busy and its becoming impossible to grab 5 minutes even for a coffee.

But on here, even at 10.30 at night I can tell someone I like their red wedges, or help someone else decide if they should wallpaper their alcoves or their chimney breast.

I HAVE NO FRIENDS IN REAL LIFE ANYMORE. You lot are all I've got.

I wouldn't say MN was more fun, but, yes, there is always somebody on here no matter what time of day or night.

HolyGuacamole · 22/03/2009 15:04

Yes, you're a loser......haha, just kidding!!!

MN is great, often I'll be sitting with the laptop laughing my ass off at the screen and DH raises an eyebrow in my direction as if to say "what are they talking about on MN now then?"

mrsmaidamess · 22/03/2009 15:05

Do you tell him Holy? Mine asks me what I'm chortling about and I resent telling him.

My Dh thinks I would be better off doing things in RL to meet and make new friends but this is better for me. I am no good in RL.

mrsmaidamess · 22/03/2009 15:06

Well nabster I'm starting to wonder about myself too.....

Sad
cornsilk · 22/03/2009 15:15

Cheer up - the internet is part of real life now!

mrsmaidamess · 22/03/2009 15:15

Yes you are right. I think perhaps I'm just more fed up at lack of RL fun at the moment! (Says she, tapping away on the PC for hours on end)

Yes, I tell him. I'll put peoples problems to him too and ask what his views are and we end up having a chat about MNetters we don't even know

He has been told not to mention MN to anyone in RL as it's my little secret place to come and have a laugh, bitch about the MIL etc etc.

Aeschylus · 22/03/2009 17:53

Hey I am a SAHD and like so many others I have lost contact with all friends since becoming a SAHD.

bloke mates dont want to talk about what the best nappies are.

so you guys are my new friends avenue, I tell my DW some topics, but not all

sockmonkey · 22/03/2009 18:06

RL is over-rated. Hurrah for MN!

prettyfly1 · 22/03/2009 18:16

Did you see the thread about bum love. Or the one about ahem oral techniques. Oooooh, or my personal favourite "my boyfriend is a vampire". I dont always enjoy some elements of mumsnet but I couldnt live without it!!!!!

BitOfFun · 22/03/2009 18:20

< clasps mrsmaidamess to bosom > I am a lovely friend, but I just can't be arsed these days gadding about, which seeing RL friends seems to entail...so I have all you lovely pretendy people instead

mrsmaidamess · 22/03/2009 18:25

I think that's partly my problem..RL entails so much effort. Is there anything inherently wrong with growing a moustache and becoming a hermit?

I just don't use the term 'RL' or 'real life' any more. I say 'Offline', because I can honestly say, I've developed real, helpful friendships online. Sometimes I've met the people, sometimes I haven't, but just as I wouldn't suggest a longterm penfriendship wasn't part of real life because I'd never physically met the friend, I increasingly think it's odd to class much of the interaction on places like MN as 'not real'.

In fact, I think that's where half the problem with the internet comes from - people hiving it off like it's something separate, and the usual rules of decent behaviour don't apply.

sockmonkey · 22/03/2009 18:28

Nope. Hermitude here we come.
