Feel awful, have friend with terrible luck with men and she met someone in Jan who has just finished with her. Going out tomorrow for a meal to cheer her up, my mind is blank and I cant think of what to say, feel i've said it all before and she's very low and lacking in self confidence because of her bad luck with men. Any suggestions?

wine and chocs and dvd and go and share them with her? Just be there, listen, don't feel you have to say something to 'fix' it.

Thanks, hope the 'silent approach' might work

Your friend sounds like me! She might want to do all the talking if she is broken hearted. Even if it bores you to tears, listen to her and be a shoulder to cry on. Alternatively, try to have a laugh and take her mind off things- or get her drunk mabe! You sound like a really lovely friend.

All you can do is to be there for her really and listen to her
I'm sure that you wouldn't, be resist the urge to rubbish him with 'I knew he was a bad un' at this point too

Spend all evening helping her write an on-line dating profile and giggling over the funniest-looking men on the site. Take lots of booze.

MAke her laugh about the whole situation, it never fails.

peachyfox that approach made me feel worse!
have you looked at what's on offer out there

Well I met my boyfriend and babyfather on one two years ago and he's lovely!

It did take a while though - all the men were from another planet and not one you'd want to visit either...

Internet dating doesn't often work but it does make you feel like you're doing something. If the relationship was only a couple of months in maybe she's more about relationship failure in general rather than him in particular? Just a thought (from someone familiar with the back of the dumper truck...)
