Now I KNOW I am being crazy but I have wondered this enough times to consider asking you wise people about it

My mother was a bit of a tart. Attention from men through sex I guess and then she met my dad. She had me and she has never got over him. He was her first love and even though she had many boyfriends after, it was always him for her (even though he got married and had more kids.)

Is it genetic to pine for your first love?

I don't think it's genetic, I think though that it can be easy to subconsciously repeat patterns of behaviour.

Probably learned behaviour rather than genetic - it's easy to follow on from the examples we see around us, specially when you're very young. So, if it's something you do and it bothers you, there's probably ways of "unlearning" it!

But I didn't live with my mother from about 18 months so I am only going on what she has told me.

Oh, it's not so likely that you'd follow her behaviour particularly then. But I think a lot of people do pine after their first love, lots of "if only" around. Is it giving you trouble?
