Suppose you took it in turns with DH to get up with baby in the morning

But every time its his turn, you have to lie in bed listening to the whimpers turn to cries hoping he'll hear, started to prod him and he's finally grunted, farted and climbed out of bed and you've heard him in the bathroom whilst baby's cries escalates. And by the end of it you're fully awake

Would you make him get up again tomorrow morning because technically your turn didn't happen?

Yes! I'd make him get up time and time again until he could do it soundlessly

(I too have a grunting farter who crashes about in the bathroom while DS gets crosser too! I tend to get up, change nappy (DS's ), give him his breastfeed on the bed in the nursery, then plonk him on the bed next to DH and say 'All yours, make sure he eats his porridge' and go back to sleep )

(Twiglett, why do you have lots and lots of deleted posts from a while ago? Keep meaning to ask you and not getting round to it! Don't tell if it's something sad - hope it's not upsetting!)

I think I would elongate my normal lie in as long as humanly possible and when asked why I'd stayed in bed so long I would reply 'oh, it took me so long to get back to sleep again - its a shame babe started crying so much, perhaps if you got a shifty on you would get to her before she woke me'

oh this brings back memories. My dh was exactly the same. It used to piss me off no end that in the middle of the night he could never hear the boys crying. But if I were to whisper "shall we have sex now" from 3 streets away he'd have heard that

I can only say it does get better. My ds1 and ds2 are 6 and 3 now. They get up together and turn on the TV or put on a DVD or just play together and can leave us alone for a couple of hours if we're lucky. Occasionally we have to get up and get them a drink of milk or something, but that is no problem.

I would definitely make it his turn until he can do the job properly.

think I might try the whisper sex offer thing just to check his hearing too

must say I haven't seen 7 am for a long time - but you know what - I'm beginning to get annoyed with myself - I have to get myself into a proper routine. Its hard cos dh is in Manchester during the week so I've no-one to drag myself out of bed for ('cept my pal across the road and she's on holiday!)

Hmm. It's a hard one Twig. It was dp's turn this am and as dd was crying for ages (downstairs with him mind you, not in her cot) it woke me up. I came down at 7am to see what on earth was the problem (and because I couldn't sleep through the noise) and was ordered back to bed, I think because dp thought if I got up then technically my lie in wouldn't have been deemed to have happened and it would have been his fault therefore his lie in wouldn't happen tomorrow! I did go back to sleep until 10am and consider it his turn to lie in tomorrow. IF I'd have stayed up though, I guiess I'd have woken him at 7am tomorrow Maybe not, I'm not that petty but ykwim. So your dh has got to get his act together I think and get up BEFORE the baby wakes you.

Put ear plugs in immediately after you have prodded him into wakefulness & let them both get on with it. You have to let him do this & you have to enjoy your lie in - so invest in ear plugs - they really do work.

btw, we only get one lie-in a week as I work Sundays and DH works the rest of the week, so we get lie-ins once a fortnight, if we're not doing anything on Saturday morning
