Did anyone ever get a divorce over Linux? I am so angry I just want to weep, no energy to scream any more. my F husband keeps changing the F operating system and I have just spent 3 hours trying to get onto the internet because the F FIREWALL (SCREEEEEAM!) has interfered with the browser settings or some such crap. Please, if there are any Linux WAGS out there, also tearing out their hair/their partners hair/weeping with impotent rage............come here and cheer me up.

We went to visit Aged Mama at the weekend, to celebrate her 80th birthday. No internet connection there, but DH brought the laptop "just in case".

He managed 6 hours internet-withdrawal cold turkey before disappearing for a couple of hours. We discovered him crouched in a freezing attic bedroom jacking into the matrix by lashing a wireless arial thingy onto a broom handle with some string, poking it out of the window and wedging it against a chimney. During a force 10 gale.

We finally lured him out of his lair by making bacon butties and wafting the smell upstairs.

"Mrs Flittersnoop was Professor Branestawm's patient and efficient housekeeper who kept neat and tidy order amongst the chaos. Whatever the disasters going on around her, she could be found serving tea, lemonade and cake, or preparing good, sensible sit-down meals".

Substitute Vino Collapso for lemonade and welcome to my life!

Little Brother, (actually a 6'2" balding 46 year old SAHD) who has been staying with us for a few days, is married to a university Professor of Computing Sciences. When DSIL and DH get together they rap away for hours about algorithms and cryptography, while DB and I discuss potty training and schools and swap recipes.

DB has hosted many a dinner party listening to tubby wild-eyed PHD students with waist-length ponytails waxing lyrical about Open Source software, the joys of retro-gaming and vintage sci-fi comics with passing reference to the LOTR films by way of the inadequacies of the CAMRA Good Pub Guide, while waving their arms around a lot. And drooling occasionally. While chowing down mountains of his home-made Delia Smith Thai curry and sucking up gallons of Premier Cru.

But even DB said to me today, "errm, you know, your DH is a REAL GEEK!" .

I gently reminded him that we have both married into the New Technocracy. At least our spouses can teach our offspring how to function in the 21st Century.

And remember ladies, Bill Gates is apparently now the Wealthiest Sentient Being in the Multiverse.

According to Microsoft!

Oh I use Ubuntu and it's fab - haven't had any problems with it at all. sorry I know that doesn't help, and now that I've said that it will lock me out too .

This 👆

The only reason Ubuntu will cause a problem is if it hasn't been set up properly. I've been using it for over 10 years. It has never crashed, or locked anyone out. Windoze causes far more problems.

DH went on a 3 day Linux course in a hotel in Dortmund with 2 colleagues, he brought me back a Linux mug, I thought he knew everything there is to know about Linux, maybe he fancied a break.
