What did you do/get for your big anniversaries - 10th/15th/20th etc ..... it is ok to do nothing except a nice bubbly and a take away?

People keep asking me what we are 'doing' (it is our 10th today by the way) and I now feel a bit deflated as we aren't doing anything. Is a card and a nice bubbly with a take away ok?

Card/bubbly/take away is fine if you are happy with that. This is the format for all big anniversaries/birthdays in the fox household! In fact anniversaries are no big deal here - ours was last week and we only remembered yesterday!

It's tin so dh surprised me with white limo and took me to the Oxo tower for a lovely meal. Congratulations ghosty - tbh just being with dh would have been enough for me.

But for our 9th, we both completely forgot and mil had to remind us a week later...

I think it is whatever cooks your goose. Personally I love a card and a takeaway etc. If you want to go out, go out, if you don't, don't. I guess if you don't agree between you then that is when it is a problem. Hope you have a great evening.

We had our 15th this year and forgot until my mum called to congratulate us .

For our 10th I gave dh a card (he gave me a big prezzie ). We also went for a nice dinner at the restaurant where we had our wedding lunch, so by our standards quite a celebration! We were childless, well off and bored, though, so any excuse was avidly seized. Now we have a much more interesting life (and a toddler!) we couldn't care less.

My DH has just announced we are going away next week for our 10th anniversary on the 8th.
Flying somewhere hot on Wednesday, don't have a clue where we are going.
I had been hinting at an eternity ring!
We normally just get each other a card and go out for a meal.

We do whatever we are happy with.
Because we don't have family nearby and dh works weekends, we have to carefully plan and co-ordinate longer nights out or weekends away, and these rarely co-incide with birthdays or anniversaries. But we still treat them as our main celebrations, and do whatever is possible/appropriate on the day itself.

We don't do much - would have done something for our 10th, but we were in the middle of our moving saga, so didn't get round to it. This year we are going to Cardiff for the day -where we got married- and hopefully all spending the night if we can find something.

Yes, course it is. I hate assumption that anything special must be marked by parting with cash. Cheapens it.

You do whatever you are comfortable doing! We do celebrate our anniversary, usually with a card and a take away. DH usually buys me flowers. Now that the children are older ( teens) we do sometimes go out for a meal. This year though, is special! It will be our Silver Wedding next week so we are going away with the whole family for a few days. We will remember the special people who are no longer here to celebrate with us and we will have an all round good time! We have bought/arranged some rather special treats for each other ( I know what he's got me but mine to him are a surprise) but really, as long as I get to spend a day with my gorgeous, sexy husband, I don't really care where we are or who we are with. Let's face it, an early night can be just as nice, if not nicer, than an evening out!

It is my 15th today and we are off on hols tomorrow so a takeaway and bubbly night for us

mind you we are going to NY for my birthday in november sans children

We usually go out to the local pub for a meal or just have a bottle of champagne at home.

For our 25th we went to London and had a trip on the London Eye followed by a nice restaurant for lunch. DH booked us first class rail tickets both ways... that was lovely

For our 30th I'm hoping for the Maldives, but I suspect that we will both feel too bad about blowing that much money when DS will be needing stuff at university.

We went on holiday for our tenth last December, because we had always said we would. On the actual day, we did nothing other than exchange cards - didn't even manage the bubbly.

If you and your DH are happy just being together, then ignore everyone else.

for our 20th we went to Rome.

But at this stage we knew that we'd never had another anniversary so we decided to make the most of it. We went just the 2 of us and it was wonderful. In the same week we went to London with the kids and that was also great.

Do whatever the two of you want, that makes you both happy.

But at the same time, 'Seize the day'. None of us are promised tomorrow

We are actually going to celebrate it tonight (1st Aug) as last night DS had soccer training and DH is the coach and they didn't come home till 9pm ...
So tonight's the night ...
We had discussed a holiday ages ago but my trip to England last month depleted the funds somewhat so maybe next year [hopeful]
DH told me he looked into taking the kids to Italy to where we had our honeymoon but that would cost something in the region of 70 million dollars I believe so that was out.
I do want an eternity ring one day but I don't want to make DH buy one JUST because it is an anniversary (and see above re. depleted funds anyway)
So - I did find a 1998 Vintage Champagne and had it delivered to DH's office which he was really chuffed with and we will drink it tonight ...
Now - can't decide on Indian, chinese or Thai ... hmmmmm ....

On our 10th I had a post-natal and DH had the snip...

It's 20 years for us on Wednesday, but we're going on holiday the following day. We always remember the day but we're usually on holiday/going on holiday, otherwise just have a nice meal and bottle of wine at home, or go out for a meal. Will probably do something more significant for our silver (only 5 years OMG). Don't be deflated. If a card and bubbly is your thing, go with it. I know people who have gone overboard on anniversaries and their marriages haven't lasted. Do what's right for you and DH, not anyone else.

Yes I know what you mean about marriages that haven't lasted after going overboard on anniversaries ... 2 years ago my friend and her husband went to Fiji for a week to celebrate their 10th and a month later he confessed to having an affair with a close mutual friend ... the divorce will be finalised in September
Another friend's husband bought her a 10,000 pound Tiffany ring for their 10th anniversary of being together (first wedding anniversary). He walked out exactly a year later
Ho hum ... I am very much looking forward to the champers tonight ....
