Was it inappropriate to use the bathroom bin for a sanitary pad?

I am working in small company. We had staff party at someone house and I was drunk but I would say I do remember everything to this point. I get along with my team very well.

I feel like there is rumours after this. I am pretty sure. I did probably put my used sanitary pad ( no periods just everyday use ones) in provided bin in bathroom after using toilet. It was a male who ones the house. If I would of been sober I probably would of lost my tracks better -I feel like it got unwrapped. I feel like he have cleaned the bin and been told about it to others like "who does that" and some people do some crazy things"there is some nicknames called out. It is background gossip.

I have confronted him by asking if there is something you wanna say please do. Says there is not and that's that. Been one more comment after that I feel. I didn't say myself anything as well. Just that if there is some talks I am thinking it is childish and immature. And to ignore me if he is not saying anything behind my back.

I feel so depressed as I was a respected in my team and this situation have brought me so down. I try to keep my head up as I think they are wrong to initiate females like that as it is natural thing.

I am starting to overthink did I do Something else but to be honest I am quite sure that was it and my brain is just starting to play trick on me.

Was I wrong doing it?

God, the number of patronising women on here who think they're experts on how other women should manage their hygiene.

Mind your own business!

Or misogynistic male posters.

You're not making any sense, and there are a lot of "I feel"s and assumptions.

  1. Please don't get drunk at work events. It's unprofessional, a bad look and you risk doing dumb or even sackable things under the influence. Plus, from your thread, it sounds like you're having a paranoid hangover. You're catastrophising something fairly banal and minor.
  2. Was it an open bin or a bin with a lid? Was the bin lined? If it was a closed bin lined with a plastic pads, I don't see the issue. Bins are gross anyway, a pad in it wouldn't have made it less gross.
  3. Find out what and if anything is actually being said about your pad, or if it's all just in your head.
gmgnts · 18/09/2026 13:13

Don't get drunk when out with work colleagues in future!

Janet345 · 19/09/2026 00:02

You were drunk at a work party, not ideal. I don’t see leaving a pad in a lined bin a problem. The guy discussing this in the office with other colleagues has no manners and probably a misogynist.

I can't get past someone using a pad for no reason? When not on their period? Is this normal? If so it's really unhealthy for down there... full of microplastics and chemicals. Surely most people don't wear them every day for everyday use? Shocked to see nobody else has asked about this. Anyway no it's no problem and your colleague is a dick. It's literally a bathroom bin!

Some ppl are at risk of small leaks for various reasons which you can’t predict when they’ll occur and some women have a lot of discharge, which again can’t predicted when it will appear. Count yourself lucky you’ve never had to take precautions!

Lots of ‘would of ’ ‘might of’ in this post. From the writing it might be that English is a second language?

to be fair the only people I see writing would of/should of have English as their first language.

When you learn it as a second language there’s a lot of focus on the grammar.

It’s gross to make strangers deal with the contents of your pants. Either use proper sanitary bags so that you know you have wrapped properly, or ideally wrap and take home with you.

it’s no different to when friends with babies come over in my mind. The default is always that they take their well wrapped pissy shitty nappies home with them, unless I offer to let them use my bin, because they have manners.

That’s……. really fucking weird. Why would you expect your friends to carry around soiled nappies or used pads instead of disposing of them in the bins?

So you’d rather let a friend carry around a soiled nappy in their bag then allow them the privilege of using your precious bin - a receptacle designed for actual rubbish? That’s bizarre. Just put in your outside bin and forget it.

@Sugarnspicenallthingsnaicethat's sort of the point though, you don't need to 'manage hygiene' because your genitals aren't unhygienic. Same reason we no longer call period products 'sanitary items'.

Hygiene is about being clean.

Of course some women will sit outside the norm and have excessive discharge, infections, leaks etc. that doesn't negate the point that MOST women don't need these and they are marketed at women to feel 'more fresh and clean' when in fact they are just unnecessary plastic waste.

Men aren't walking around with liners for stains. The underwear gets washed. That's why underwear exists.

Do what you want, but it's another example of excessive consumption that impacts our planet.

Grown women are perfectly capable of deciding for themselves what they need in this respect.

You don't need an explanation, you don't need to offer an opinion or try to convince them they're 'outside the norm'.

I'm not sure whether you're a bit of a creep or just an insufferable know-it-all, but you should really butt out (pardon the pun).

Mostly it has been two guys talking about it between them but loudly as we share the same room. There is music in background and everybody kind of doing their own thing. So as I knew I might of left sanitary pad in bathroom bin and was quite sure (but we went out later so I hoped I removed it there). After some comments like, who does that I am quite sure was saying to other guy that "should we do what she did in my house " and felt like he was looking at me. There is been more comments I guess based on the pad- there might been some discharge on the, normal every day thing. Maybe changed colour as was in a bin day or 2. I am actually using them every day to be clean and I get opposite reactions. Just sad. My partner said that he thinks it is nothing and nobody knows actually it is you. He is a guy but I think men taking those things differently based on backgrounds I guess how they grow up etc.. but I feel like they assume it was me. There were other girls, one of them left earlier and one of them came later and was quite sober. I was drunk so I think that is a main reason the blame on me. But could of been anyone really, right. We all girls using them everyday drunk or sober. Just scared as I was drunk it might of stick maybe on top and opened - I remember using toilet paper to cover it but I think I didn't rolli it in it but just put paper on it. Bin lead needs to taken off to change bag.

Edited

You didn't need to take the pad off and put it in the bin at that point. Why didn't you wait until you got home?

What??

What makes you think you can decide what OP felt she needed to do or not do?

You posting that unwanted, unhelpful and irrelevant opinion is also an unnecessary part of that consumption. You've probably killed some insects, plants and cuddly bears by posting that.

It’s literally a bin, that’s what it’s for!

What??

What makes you think you can decide what OP felt she needed to do or not do?

Because she said there was nothing on it so probably didn't need removing although she did say she was drunk at the time

SpoonyBlueMember · 21/09/2026 05:00

There was a bit discharge that is why I removed it. Sure would of done it at home to be very safe but as I was drunk I did it there. In the morning I straight away thought why I did it there! As there was little discharge and was probably unwrapped in the bin with bag and lid I think it is embarrassing if they see what's on it.
And yes,I use it sometimes when neede not every day. To be clean-ot is easier to remove liner than change underwear. I like to have clean pants on.

JayJayj · 21/09/2026 08:38

It’s not embarrassing. It’s a natural part of having a vulva. Honestly I wouldn’t think twice about it. It says more about the men thinking it’s gross than it does about you.

SpoonyBlueMember · 21/09/2026 09:10

Thank you everyone. I am glad I did post here-feeling better.needed some outside perspective .Wasn't ideal situation but also if they been so immature about it I guess shame is on them now.
