I'm having an affair with my husbands' best friend

Lulubear26 · 23/08/2026 07:34

l, 47F and my OH 54M have been together for 30 years we have 2 DD aged 15 and 18.
4 months ago his friends came over for a night out for his birthday. We all got really drunk and everyone else went to bed except me and his friend G, hes also 53M married with 2 kids. We ended up kissing etc and it pretty steamy, we didnt have sex but pretty much did everything else. Me and G and have flirted for years, even used to have cheeky snog when we were really young.
The next day I messaged G and we decided to try and have an affair. 2 days after that my husband announces to me that he'd seen us together, not stopped it and went back to bed, twice! His reaction really unnerved me, we went to some couples counselling but I think I'd already decided that the marriage was over not just cos of the friend but lots of other reasons around being bored and stale and wanting some independence. I didnt keep seeing the friend out of respect for the break up, even though I really wanted to. Fast forward 3 months, and I have rented my own house, moved out and we are co-parenting the kids with view to sell up next year. The whole process has been amicable so far, however ex Husband did say he does not want me to see G again.
2 days after I moved in my house I contacted G, we immediately stepped back into sexting and we met at a hotel. Since then its been more messaging but things are getting very close, he said his marrige is pretty much over, im worried im getting too close to him, I dont know whether to just back away before I get more involved, we have arranged another hotel next week and I so excited to see him. We live 4 hours away from each other.
What would you do next?

How many children are caught up in the crossfire ?

Morepositivemum · 23/08/2026 16:46

There is no way this is a real thread- ye decided to try having an affair, you decided the marriage was over, no way anyone with kids would be this blasé about messing up their kids’ life/ their friend’s life or their marriage.

notyetbranded · 23/08/2026 16:53

Personally I wouldn’t get involved with someone who is in a relationship or married. It’s bad karma to be the reason for someone’s heart getting broken. My advice would be that if he really wants to be with you, he will do the right thing, be honest with his wife and leave. Only then should you continue any type of relationship, physical or otherwise x

maxslice · 24/08/2026 03:12

I’m just thinking this is going to get messy, and won’t end well,

This is the third baity thread since last night, it seems like the posters want people to ask more details about their affair encounters, in a really weird way. I would suggest everyone stops engaging.

Yeah, it’s the school holidays. The whole style in which this is written suggests to me that this was not written by a mature adult…

You sound like an immature teenager. Do your kids figure in anything?

user1492757084 · 24/08/2026 04:15

Be prepared for fall out. What if his wife has a break down. Tops herself?
What if kids disown you?
You are treating real people like they are worthless.

LoudSnoringDog · 24/08/2026 04:19

You sound like a really shitty person with both no respect for yourself or others

LivelyRedFawn · 24/08/2026 04:19

You know he is married so leave him alone. Marriages go stale sometimes but from experience I can tell you he may not leave his wife and then you are the OW. Are you happy with that? Why not just start dating other men that aren't married with kids.

PumpkinPieAlibi · 24/08/2026 04:20

What I would do next is enroll in better creative writing classes.

Cheeky snog? The husband walking in twice? Respect the breakup?

It's just far too juvenile and cliched to be real.

Palomiino · 24/08/2026 04:22

47F - what do you think this is, Reddit? Because it certainly sounds copy & pasted from there.

Madamefroufrou · 24/08/2026 06:37

You could look up “buddy fucking” and check out how used you have been/are -
if this is a bona fide thread which seems increasingly unlikely through the matter
of fact tone.

I’d hope his wife isn’t packing his stuff up and leaving it at your place. Then sending him a message to let him know they were getting divorced.

My husband’s extra-marital disliked it as much as he did, and it certainly spoiled the lovely weekend they were planning to have. Oh Dear! What a shame, never mind.

VaxMerstappen · 24/08/2026 07:38

Another morally repugnant person who prioritises their pleasure above and beyond the feelings of anyone else. Congratulations.

LaurieFairyCake · 24/08/2026 08:05

Havent you also been friends with his wife for DECADES

Starlia · 24/08/2026 08:06

Yawn. Straight from the amateur writer’s subreddit.

CinnamonBuns67 · 24/08/2026 08:16

Your poor DH and poor the (hopefully former) best friend's wife. Hope your DH lets her know, wish I'd had bottle to do it when my ex cheated on me. You are both disgusting.

No his marriage isn't pretty much over, he just likes his bread buttered on both sides. He wants the excitement with you whilst maintaining the security of her. It's convenient for him. He'll drop you once he's bored or his wife gets too close to the truth, which I hope she does one way or another so she can be free of him.

Onelifeonly · 24/08/2026 08:38

This reads more like an AMA post than the usual MN post of 'I've got myself into this awful situation and I don't know what to do for the best so please help'. So I say it's a lie (From the TV programme Would I Lie to You?)

Bogstandardname · 24/08/2026 08:42

This has to be fake.

FlayOtters · 24/08/2026 09:09

The next day I messaged G and we decided to try and have an affair.

This is one of the weirder sentences I have read on MN. Are you incredibly literal, have english as a second language, or was this story maybe helped along by one of our artificial friends?

OneNewEagle · Yesterday 01:10

You think of his wife.

So many threads about affairs recently. I wonder if there's a writing group who target Mumsnet and this months subject, to see who can get the most engagement, is 'affairs'.

Quite possibly.

Mumtobabyhavoc · Yesterday 01:48

"dont know whether to just back away before I get more involved, we have arranged another hotel next week and I so excited to see him"

You are already totally involved. You both sound utterly selfish. I wonder how his wife and kids feel.

Yet another fake thread?

Yep. Written by a male, 100 percent

That's lovely, dear.
