My husband went back with his ex that I’m worried about shortly after we broke up during our teen years and it has haunted me ever since. Am I overreacting?

Back when me and my husband was 16 years old, we broke up, it was a painful breakup for the both of us but we came back together and he didn’t tell me what happened right away, I only knew abt it when we were 19. When we broke up, he went straight to his ex and also some other casual flings when I was beating myself up and crying all day. Fast forward to now, our marriage is great and we have 2 beautiful kids. There’s no argument about my husband cheating or anything of some sort, he is a good husband and a father to my kids, but sometimes it still bothers me. What should I do?

You get over it. You were both 16 for heaven’s sake!

MimmyMoozer · Today 08:54

He was a child. He was 16.

If that is your biggest issue in your marriage then you have a good one and you shouldn't risk messing that up by going over sonethibg that happened so long ago when you were so young.

Abracadeborah · Today 08:55

Grow up.

Unblushingly · Today 08:56

What’s really going on here? Because a 16 year old shagging around while single isn’t at all noteworthy. Your reaction back then sounds far odder.

Candleflakes · Today 08:56

Get some therapy to help you get over it.

Sudagame · Today 08:57

Mathematically impossible l know but how old are you now ? 12 ?

ALovelyPinkUnicorn · Today 08:58

A single 16 yo boy was having sex? Not
some that would shock me…
why did you break up? And how long after initially breaking up with the “ex” did you get together then split?

Smartiepants79 · Today 08:59

You were kids, you were not together. He was completely entitled to see who ever he wanted whilst he was single.
Since then you have built a good relationship and he has been faithful???
Honestly, you need to get over it. You’re at risk of damaging your marriage with this nonsense.

Bumcake · Today 08:59

Of course you are overreacting, to the point of madness.

Kaidaia · Today 09:01

Not to pile on but forget about it. He was a child as where you

I also learned that they kissed during that time.

FFS. You need to rewatch friends. They were on a break.

School’s out for Summer….

You were children. Your early relationships are where you make these mistakes and learn lessons. You can’t be holding a grudge over a childhood drama. You’re adults now and married with children, you need to let this go.

Was that really news? Hope they didn’t hold hands.

BumblebeesandPaperbags · Today 09:10

It didn’t bother you enough to stop you getting married and having children with him.

Assuming he has been a good husband since you married you really need to let this go.

You risk ruining your relationship otherwise. And that will be your fault, not his.

vodkaredbullgirl · Today 09:13

The past is the past.

SusanJJ · Today 09:14

OP I wonder if your relationship is really happy and secure now? Is something worrying you about his behaviour?

thesealion · Today 09:15

Why on earth are you bothered about stuff that happened when you were 16? Has nothing noteworthy happened in your life since?

He treats me like a queen. It just bothers me that it ever happened

You should recognise that he was young and single.
Your response is not a mature one and is, quite frankly, a bit odd.

Why? This is not a normal response.

Yea maybe I really need a therapy. I really don’t and didn’t have friend as well to talk about this. I made him my world and maybe it is my fault that I psychoanalyses things from the past.

What's triggered this? It would seem that something remains unresolved for you even after all this time, however I wouldn't raise it with your husband unless you're willing to risk causing real issues. Write him a letter detailing your feelings, and instead of sending it, burn it. Focus on what you have now instead of wasting energy on something you can't change.
