The snoring

Anyone else's partner snore? How do you deal with it?
Ive always struggled with the sound of snoring, it hurts my ears and I find it irritating. My boyfriend is a snoreer. Last night I ended up having to sleep on the sofa it was just so bad. I can't use ear plugs in case it stops me from hearing my alarm. Headphones I only use over head headphones so that's not really much of an option either. I love this man so much but I'm struggling with his snoring. It's not quite either

Oh on holiday I use loops

Elleoeez · 08/08/2026 00:28

Separate beds for us. My DH has a CPAP machine and it’s really helped. One night on it and he lasts a few days. He was also given a spray which he’ll bring on holidays, but I believe it should only be used occasionally. I feel for you, I cannot stand snoring either.

I'm hoping he dose go to the doctors he needs to

If he has sleep apnea it’s really not great for his health to not get it treated. Also it’s pretty selfish to know he is keeping you up and not even trying to sort it.

CoastalCalm · 08/08/2026 01:20

Earplugs won’t stop you hearing your alarm , I wear them every night despite having separate bedrooms as he can still wake me up from across the hall. My DH had surgery to try and resolve but still a problem and sharing a hotel room is just torture especially if he’s had a few drinks - holiday cottages and separate rooms is the work around for us , it’s just what we need to do for our marriage to work

I ended up sleeping on the sofa. I'm so tired. I love him to pieces and I know he can't help it, but he doesn't really do anything to help himself

I would rewrite that. He doesn't really do anything to help you. He knows you're sleep deprived. He knows it's because of him and he's not doing anything to address it. You love him to pieces. Does he love you as much?

Beetrootsmoothie · 08/08/2026 03:17

My DH uses an 'antisnore' pillow, it works!

If i keep asking long enough he'll eventually do it

He dose, he always tells me how much he loves me but just won't help himself. He hates doctors which is why I think he puts it off

It's a difficult one, my partner broke her nose quite badly on a trampoline. She was coming down as her son was going up and the top of his head hit her square in the face. She has snorred loudly all the 10 years we've been together and as a 20 a day smoker makes it worse apparently. We only see each other at weekends which makes it difficult. I take a roll up mattress to her house or can use another bedroom at my place. It seems to be getting worse lately I wish I had some answers for you!

"he hates doctors..." - again, convenient that he has another excuse.

He sounds like a baby.

Why isn't he doing anything to reduce the snoring? Doesn't he love you?

Or you could tell him to either do something about it or you're done. He's a selfish man, what's attractive about that?

Sorry to hear its getting worse. Didn't realise smoking can be an affect. He is a smoker

Actions speak louder than words. He will soon help himself if you stop staying over or letting him stay over. Why are you making yourself sleep deprived for a selfish man?

Octoberfest · 08/08/2026 09:15

Loop sleep earplugs have been a lifesaver for me. I still hear my alarm (I use my phone alarm with sound plus vibration). Takes a bit of getting used to, but so much better than sleeping on the sofa

baaabaaa · 08/08/2026 09:17

I use a snoozeband which is quite good.
My partner also wears a mouth guard and neck brace this to try and prevent snoring. I wish he’d go to the docs to get tested for sleep apnea though

Because i love him, I'm one of these who will put up with a lot for someone I love

I'm saying that if men were suffering as much as women currently suffer due to their partners snoring then there would be much more emphasis on this and steps taken to cure it by the medical professionals. But as it doesn't affect men as much, no-one really cares enough to look into it more closely.

Yes, there would be the funding for it for a start.

Millions spent on finding a cure for erectile dysfunction yet nobody is looking for a cure for women's lack of libido.

I brought myself some professional earplugs - the type that musicians and shooters use. Got them from Specsavers and had to be measured up, ie, had a special mould thing made. They are absolutely brilliant Mine were over £100 though and that was 20 years ago. Make some enquiries.

Just wanted to add - if women snored just as bad as men snored, there would be a cure for snoring.

You’ve not heard my mum and sister then! Like drills both of them.

OP, I use the orange ear plugs from screwfix, drown at the snoring but you still hear your alarm.
