Keep in mind we are in late 30s….a woman I like (I am male) we have been friends for a while but often wondered if there is more. I’m terrible at reading her. We make each other laugh a lot and recently she said ‘you are too cute’

women on here please what’s your read on this? I don’t won’t to be her big cuddly teddy bear cute…..unsure what she meant.

It means lovely, adorable, sweer. You might say it about a couple who were all loved up and besotted with each other.

somanychristmaslights · 03/05/2026 15:58

it’s just a way of expressing she liked whatever had happened. Kind of like “ahh that’s so nice!” It can be said to a man or woman in a friendly way.
why don’t you just ask her out??

Sunweather · 03/05/2026 16:10

Thanks for the replies so far. I’m trying to work out if her calling me too cute suggests maybe she sees me as more than a friend and are there some romantic feelings bubbling.

It means you need to be very careful indeed. If you're going to call her "cute" that could be classed as disgusting, disrespectful behaviour and the police could be called.

As its not and it her calling you cute, youll find that none if those rules apply to you. My advice would be to forget about it and avoid her before you get a visit from the local Police because you were "looking at her" which is naturally wrong.

WTF?
Are you some male perv who's been called out for harassment? I can't think of another reason for you to post such rubbish.

Waste of space, example of the worst of the internet.

It might mean that she sees you as childish and not capable of an adult relationship (with her).

I mean, maybe she sees you as a friend only.

Blimms · 03/05/2026 16:30

I don’t think it indicates any romantic feelings from her. If anything I think the opposite.

Jeepers. You really have no idea why a woman would be a bit wary of you… really, no idea at all?

MermaidsSideEye · 03/05/2026 16:32

If she’s Irish, it may mean she thinks you’re too clever by half.

See also ‘cute hoor’, which doesn’t mean she thinks you’re an attractive sex worker.

So women's behaviour to men is equally threatening to men's behaviour to women? Men live in fear of creepy women like women live in fear of creepy men?

You have no idea.

@Thatsthebottomline have you been accused of something?

If she's american it means she thinks you're hot.

British could mean a variety of things - cute, sweet, a darling, funny in a nice way, kind even.

She likes you but whether she's into you would be more about body language.

Does she touch you at all?

Sunweather · 03/05/2026 16:44

you know I haven’t posted in forums for years now I remember why, some of the excuse for humans that roam as disturbed keyboard warriors. This will be my last. I remember why I stopped.

Thanks for the genuine replies so far.

She would touch me yes close body contact etc never nervous with that. The too cute thing was odd as I just felt does she like me or is it her stripping me of all my masculinity lol.

I’ve only heard this phrase used by my Irish friends and it definitely a friendly term of endearment though I’ve mainly heard it used about small children or pets now I think about it! Whatever jt means in your case, it’s likely positive rather than negative but don’t read more than that into it.

A woman being concerned about misogyny isn’t her being an ‘excuse of a human’.

DreamyJade · 03/05/2026 16:47

She could be telling you she likes you, or it could be her way of trying to making it clear that you’ve been friend-zoned. It’s difficult to say.

BillieWiper · 03/05/2026 16:55

Yeah it sounds like it's very friend zone. She's trying to put distance between you romantically by saying it. It definitely doesn't mean she thinks you're incredibly sexy.

Blimms · 03/05/2026 16:37

No. Sadly Ive just wasted most of my life following the rules.

What a waste of time that was.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/05/2026 16:59

In Yorkshire in could mean cunning/canny. Especially East Yorks/Hull IME.

CatRestaurant · 03/05/2026 17:00

Friendzone, sorry.

HotChocolateBubbleBath · 03/05/2026 17:00

I think a lot of what she means would be in the tone she used which isn’t possible for us to know. She could be friend zoning you or she could be flirting a little.

Sunweather · 03/05/2026 17:01

Yeah I think it’s friend zone too. That was my initial view.

Are you pleased about this or would you like a relationship with her?
