If you met someone just like you, would you be friends?

If you met yourself socially, would you find yourself becoming friends, or disliking her?

Yes I know it's impossible, but just imagine meeting someone exactly like yourself (but looking somewhat different). Would you warm to yourself, find yourself boring or actually be repelled?

In my case, I'd probably find it difficult to get to know me, but after a while we'd probably get along very well, even if we found each other a bit creepy.

I would absolutely love to be my friend, I’m funny, friendly, interesting, always up for trying something new, a good listener and very modest.

Shithotlawyer · 18/03/2026 15:23

wouldn't be bored, we could encourage each other to do creative things and get deep into our obsessive interests! but I would weary of her endless self-analysis and the way she interrupts everyone, plus she would pretend she wasn't hungry then secretly binge all the biscuits before I would get a chance to.

Mum2Fergus · 18/03/2026 15:26

I’m currently already my own best friend, so I’d say yes 🙌

ainsleysanob · 18/03/2026 15:26

I am the most antisocial person in the world so the likelihood of me meeting anyone in a social setting is almost nil. But yes, I would like myself.

MissPrismsMistake · 18/03/2026 15:43

I would immediately feel competitive. Then decide she’s doing better than me in every aspect of life. Then retreat, wounded.

This.
I often do stuff alone, including holidays. I love it. I'm really good at amusing myself so if I had me as a friend we would never be bored. We could chat about our craft hobbies. We'd laugh a lot.

The only issue would be competitiveness in things like playing board games. We might end up killing each other!

dudsville · 18/03/2026 15:48

Yes, I would like that! I wonder if I would find parts of me to be aspects I have to accept though, like I do with any of those closest to me. Saying that, I don't know what that would be. I do like! I do like myself though.

CaffeinatedSeagull · 18/03/2026 15:49

Yes, I think so. We’d go for pints and talk about cult footballers and indie bands 99% of people have never heard of.

Only downside is I’m a INTJ so very straight talking and direct when asked for an honest opinion. I’m already very critical of myself already!

peptual · 18/03/2026 15:51

Strangely no, I think they’d annoy me. I think I have some funny ways and I’m equally not forgiving of others with funny ways! Awful I know.

Crunk · 18/03/2026 15:51

We’d get on great but the friendship wouldn’t last long because we’d both be rubbish at replying to texts.

I think you’re me. But we will never meet!

WellOodelally · 18/03/2026 15:53

I think so. I try very hard to include people and make them feel valued for their input into social situations so I’d at least give me a chance and then once we had that in, we’d have lots in common 😂 my kids are pleasant too, as unbiased as one can be saying that, so not a hindrance to a potential ‘mum friend’

Badbadbunny · 18/03/2026 15:54

I've always preferred friends who are very much like me. In my case, opposites don't attract at all, whether it's friends or relationships. My few friends and my DH (and our son) are all really similar to each other and myself, right down to hobbies, interests, opinions, mannerisms, etc. I'd love to have a clone of me (as would DH!!).

JustGiveMeReason · 18/03/2026 15:55

Absolutely.
I'm hilarious.

I'd prefer to friend a friend who loved cooking meals, and sharing them, and loved baking and sharing with friends though.

Villanellesproudmum · 18/03/2026 16:00

No we would be too competitive and fall out.

True, that would be a potential recursive hazard. I'm very critical of myself but I also criticise myself for being so self-critical.

Get two identical people like that together and there could be some weird and lengthy altercations. But I think we'd soon realise what's going on and reach an uneasy truce...

Probably not I’m horrible

Twoshoesnewshoes · 18/03/2026 16:09

Definitely, and probably lovers too

ThankFuckTheSunIsHere · 18/03/2026 16:10

Yes definitely I rock!

ACynicalDad · 18/03/2026 16:10

I tolerate all sorts, so maybe I'd cope with me.

What's an INTJ? I'd like you as I'm very straight talking. Although tactful. But people know if they ask my opinion they'll get it. I prefer honesty.

SadSaq · 18/03/2026 16:14

@CaffeinatedSeagull Just googled INTJ. I'm more extroverted.
I should do that test again haven't for years.

scaffoldexpert · 18/03/2026 16:16

Yes I'd love to be friends with me, honestly I think I am funny, loyal, kind, interesting and smart.

PersephonePomegranate · 18/03/2026 16:17

Not really, no. Imagine someone who just agrees with you on anything and has no other perspective or ideas? Sounds boring to me!

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 18/03/2026 16:17

Could go either way.
