If you met someone just like you, would you be friends?

If you met yourself socially, would you find yourself becoming friends, or disliking her?

Yes I know it's impossible, but just imagine meeting someone exactly like yourself (but looking somewhat different). Would you warm to yourself, find yourself boring or actually be repelled?

In my case, I'd probably find it difficult to get to know me, but after a while we'd probably get along very well, even if we found each other a bit creepy.

I would bore the other me, because I'd have nothing to say that she wouldn't already know.

AlexRidersButt · 18/03/2026 17:12

I could know her slightly and depending on mood, think she's fantastic or find her really annoying for talking too much and interrupting and generally being A Bit Much

As good friends I am pretty sure two of us would suck all the oxygen out of the room. But we'd talk a lot and agree on everything and be extremely enthusiastic. And more competitive than I'd like to admit to.

BunnyLake · 18/03/2026 17:18

I think we’d be best mates 😁

Mingspingpongball · 18/03/2026 17:21

Yes we would but I wouldn’t wish the same life events I’ve had on my worst enemy (actually I’d wish him worst things) so maybe someone like me if things hadn’t gone the way they did.,,but I’d love someone who had the same energy and so on.
my current best friend is very like me in all the ways I would like but I’m a bit deflated by her making moves on my husband (he really hates me underneath all his faux great husband persona) - she’s welcome to try, I’m past caring, but it’s a bit below the belt as she does know all the shit I’ve had in my life and current problems.

And that’s definitely not me - I’d never try to shag/run off with a married man. I have many faults, but that’s not one of them. No matter how amazing the man appears to be.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 18/03/2026 17:24

You don't like yourself? What? I mean I would probably piss myself off on occasion and it may get a bit boring always having the exact same opinion on stuff but I think being friends with yourself is pretty key.

I feel really sad that you call such a snake your best friend.

Be mine instead. We can craft voodoo dolls and exchange ridiculously long jokes with godawful punchlines.

MrFluffyDogIsMyBestFriend · 18/03/2026 17:52

I met a younger version of myself recently when I was collecting a Thai takeaway. I think we both instantly recognised that we had exactly the same mannerisms and it was quite a weird moment. I would very much want to be her friend.

INFJ (since we're talking mbti) so rare to meet someone so similar. Similar to INTJ but we're people-pleasers so outwardly very different. Both types often autistic.

LouiseMadetheBestBroccoliPasta · 18/03/2026 18:22

We wouldn't be friends because we'd think the other is standoffish and an annoying know-it-all with an unnerving intense gaze. But maybe if we were forced to deal with each other on a sailboat for a week (or in a similar sitch where you can't get away from each other), we might unbend sufficiently and then probably we'd become devoted ride-or-die best friends.

Simonjt · 18/03/2026 18:26

We would sit and ignore each other, bliss!

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 18/03/2026 18:30

I can answer this one. My best friend is exactly like me, we were introduced and instantly felt like sisters. Neither of us makes friends easily and are both generally loners, and feel like weird outcasts. Like nobody really understands me. With her, we had the same fashion sense, same taste in music, same sense of humour. I know what she is thinking without her having to say it. Turns out we have the same psychiatric condition 😂 I work with people who have this condition and we all get on like a house on fire.

So yes, my best friend being exactly the same as me is a super amazing thing and I am so grateful to have found her.

CrochetGrannySquare · 18/03/2026 18:47

You've described me @BeanQuisine so I guess that we'd get along although I wouldn't describe myself as creepy (I'm sure others would though)!

It would be most enjoyable spending time being involved in the other me's latest interest, these interests seemingly randomly springing from nowhere.

ThatPearlkitty · 18/03/2026 18:48

i wouldent trust me because i wouldent be sure if i was saying x to butter up or being real

AWedgeOfLemonAndASmartAnswerForEverything · 18/03/2026 18:51

God yes. Whenever anyone says, "wouldn't it be dull if we were all the same?" I just think, nope, if everyone were like me it would be fantastic. They'd probably all be like the people who say "wouldn't it be dull if we were all the same" though.

Thatsthebottomline · 18/03/2026 20:28

After a really awkward first hour, I'd really like me.

We go down the pub and drink really hoppy, gluten free beer over some competitive pool. Then we'd talk about philosophy and the meaning of life and those behaviours people have that I, or should that be we, just dont understand .

We'd both have found someone to go to see musicals and opera with and who doesn't mind small, real ale pubs where its nice and quiet and you dont get loud, aggressive people.

Naturally, at the minute I always go out alone.

Justchillinhere · 18/03/2026 20:32

I would be very happy to have me as a friend, loyal, kind, same personality hobbies and outlook

RosyDaysAhead · 19/03/2026 18:16

Nope, I’m generally quite anti social, so meeting someone like me we would naturally gravitate away from each other!!!

gingerninja · 19/03/2026 18:20

Shithotlawyer · 18/03/2026 15:23

wouldn't be bored, we could encourage each other to do creative things and get deep into our obsessive interests! but I would weary of her endless self-analysis and the way she interrupts everyone, plus she would pretend she wasn't hungry then secretly binge all the biscuits before I would get a chance to.

Are we the same person? 😆

VivienneDelacroix · 19/03/2026 18:22

No. I don't like people much, so I don't think I'd like myself! 😂

binnibonnieboo · 19/03/2026 18:25

No. All my friends are very different from me. I think I'd find it very unsettling.

Bananacharmer · 19/03/2026 18:33

yes For friends , male and female . I like male friends like me as I would never date them , we can have a close but uncomplicated relationship. I once dated a man just like me and it was an absolute nightmare, particularly professionally as we were quite competitive in the same career . I like a man I’m with to be the yang to my yin.

chellewillnotbebeaten · 19/03/2026 19:42

I think I’d quite like me as a friend aside from the fact I’m crap at keeping in touch with people - it’s a bit of a catch 22 🤣

Nicewoman · 19/03/2026 19:48

I’d be wanting to marry them & they’d be my best friend forever

User0311 · 19/03/2026 19:50

I enjoy my own company so yes I’d say so!

RedToothBrush · 19/03/2026 19:53

We'd get a cat, a shark pond and minions and take over the world.

EEHHH · 19/03/2026 19:58

Yes yes and yes.
However i do have a friend that is like me.
