If you met someone just like you, would you be friends?

If you met yourself socially, would you find yourself becoming friends, or disliking her?

Yes I know it's impossible, but just imagine meeting someone exactly like yourself (but looking somewhat different). Would you warm to yourself, find yourself boring or actually be repelled?

In my case, I'd probably find it difficult to get to know me, but after a while we'd probably get along very well, even if we found each other a bit creepy.

I met someone who is like my twin - we like the same things so much it is uncanny. We think each other are GREAT!!!

You don't sound too modest! 😂

I think it was a joke.......

Nothungrycat · 19/03/2026 21:31

I'm very reserved so take a long time to relax in company, and I also have very low confidence so rarely initiate any social activity. So, if I met someone like me, the chances of us actually getting close enough to become friends is really really really low.

HoppityBun · 19/03/2026 21:35

Shit no. Total PITA

TheBigFatMermaid · 19/03/2026 21:41

Yes, I'd be my own friend.

My actual friends ask me how I'm so confident and why I don't care what other people think of me.

My honest reply is that I know I'm a good person and so why should I worry what other people think. If they don't see the value of me, that's their loss.

WhatWouldRoyKentSay · 19/03/2026 22:14

If I met me socially we'd be instant friends. In fact, thinking about it, I actually see a lot of me in my three closest friends, two of whom I've been friends with for over 30 years and the other for 15 😊

OnGoldenPond · 19/03/2026 22:24

Yes, I’m already my own best friend! Grin

darksideofthemooncup · 19/03/2026 22:27

If I’d met me 20 years ago we would both have e been terrible influences on each other, it would have been brilliant fun though

spiderlight · 19/03/2026 22:28

No because we'd both be too shy to strike up a friendship with each other! 🙄

Lifegoeson2025 · 19/03/2026 22:29

I would say I’m an honest, genuine person with no hidden agenda so I would definitely like to meet me! Caring, considerate and wear my heart on my sleeve. Cautious to begin with, but fun once I’ve sussed you out!

ApocalypseNowt · 19/03/2026 22:34

I'm a treat. Would love to meet another me.

Chickoletta · 19/03/2026 22:36

What a great question! I’m not sure that I would, to be honest. My best friend is a man and I think that in many ways he’s a lot like me - same sense of humour, world view, interests, politics etc - but I wonder whether I would be a bit competitive with a woman? I think there’s a reason why my most successful friendships have always been with men and my husband is quite different.

Linoleum81 · 19/03/2026 22:37

I’d be delighted to finally find someone with the same music taste as me to go to gigs with

Titsywoo · 19/03/2026 22:38

God yes! I'm the funniest person I know 😁

jellybeanlover2 · 19/03/2026 22:40

Great question- yes, I would be friends with me, I’m loyal, funny, caring and not clingy, my type of person

ZenNudist · 19/03/2026 22:46

I meet people like me all the time, and get on with them.

God knows how either of us would ever get a word in edgeways.

RetiredGranny · 19/03/2026 22:54

I met someone my boss had employed in a previous job, she was very like me, so I think he knew what sort of person he liked working for him.

ChristmasGal21 · 19/03/2026 23:47

I love how this question gets you thinking about your own self worth and fundamentally whether you like yourself or not. Turns out I do and I’d love to hang out with myself ☺️ this is huge progress for someone who used to self loathe and have a very unkind inner voice! Thanks OP for making making me reflect

3luckystars · 19/03/2026 23:48

Good question!!

BeGoldLemur · 20/03/2026 10:10

My best friend says I’d be ridiculously competitive with my person. I reckon we’d be frenemies!
bloody good question!

firstofallimadelight · 20/03/2026 10:51

Someone I can sit in the company of while we silently read books or to do crosswords/ play board games with, to obsess over a box set together. Yes please!!

DryIce · 20/03/2026 10:58

I love how many people are saying similar things - especially that they'd love to be their own friend because of a so.ilar list of qualities, but need to break the ice. Maybe we all have more potential friends around us than we think!

Gotback · 20/03/2026 11:06

Absolutely, I'm a delight! Whether we could be arsed tho is another matter as presumably she'd be as lazy as me.

dailydream · 20/03/2026 11:12

I'd find me annoying, so probably not.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 20/03/2026 14:00

I would make friends with them very quickly. I would just wish they would stop interrupting me all the time
