What are you buying your partner for Valentines Day?

A card, a top he wanted and we are going out for lunch to a new restaurant we wanted to try. The sneering on here is weird! We’ve been together 25 yrs and have always done something.

Every year there are posts about Valentines Day and always quite a few sneering posts.

Some posters like to tell us it is only for youngsters but I think the best ones are the posters that tell us they don't need to be told when to show love as they show it all year round! Well so do me and DH but we also like celebrating certain days whether with a card, a nice meal, a small present etc

Shoxfordian · 11/02/2026 08:27

I bought him some very posh chocolates, and a game we can play together - also a cornish pasty thing and got some nice cheese for the weekend

We're going out for lunch on Saturday

Londontown12 · 11/02/2026 08:34

I've ordered a hamper from the Cornish company ! With Cornish pasties scones biscuits and tea I think ! It has jam and clotted cream as well !
My daughter gave him one for his bday and he loved it so I'm doing it again because I know he will really appreciate it !
It's a fun day where if u want u can show how much u appreciate them !!
I'm a super soppy soppy romantic thou we been together 30 years this year !! 😍

TheCurious0range · 11/02/2026 08:36

A lush bubble bar and some chocolate, there's nothing that man loves more than a bubble bath with a snack

aintnospringchicken · 11/02/2026 08:41

Nothing.Been married for 37 years and don’t need one day of the year to tell each other we love them.

Always one!!

Celebrating Valentines doesn't mean you can't or don't tell each other you love them other days too you know

BlackCat14 · 11/02/2026 08:46

Yep always sneery posts on these threads each year. Who knew only teenagers like receiving cards and chocolate? Not me! And the whole “we love each other every day of the year” yeah so do the rest of us, but it didn’t stop us having a bit of extra fun on valentines!

00deed1988 · 11/02/2026 09:16

We don't really do valentines but I have bought a 'naughty'/funny scratch card and a keyring that will make him laugh as well as a funny card. Planning on ordering a take away and a bottle or 2 of wine. After 14 years together this year, married 13 and this has actually been our best year yet, so trying to make a bit of an effort!

Gamerlady · 11/02/2026 09:33

Don't buy any commercial tosh or overpriced flowers. Waste of money

No I don't buy commercial tosh or overpriced flowers and nor does DH. We do buy each other a thoughtful gift though

Parsleyforme · 11/02/2026 13:05

A stargazing event at an observatory on the night, it will be more interesting/romantic and cheaper than a nice dinner. Not expecting anything from my boyfriend (I’m not really bothered about Valentine’s beyond a card) but if he does buy something I would guess a plant.

I always find it a bit weird going to restaurants or events on Valentine’s evening knowing most people will be going home and having sex 🙈. They obviously could be on any night but the high probability makes me think about all the couples shagging. I’m probably weird for thinking about it

Kelticgold · 11/02/2026 15:29

Rien de rien

VickyEadieofThigh · 11/02/2026 15:51

Nothing. We don't recognise it as a thing.

PedanticPrincess · 11/02/2026 15:52

Nothing. Don’t feel the need to after 18 years of marriage.

mynamesaretaken · 12/02/2026 05:21

He'll be away for work, so we aren't celebrating together. We aren't doing big gifts usually anyway, I just get him a card and he gets me flowers and usually we're planning a night out. This year I'm making a valentine's themed video with out photos instead of a card and a night out will happen a bit later I guess.

Theda13 · 14/02/2026 00:25

We’ve been together for seven years and we do something for Valentine’s Day each year.

I’m treating DP to a meal delivered from our favourite Italian restaurant tomorrow night. It’s one of the first places we went to together. DP will get a card too.

MissyPants · 14/02/2026 00:31

Fuck all because it's all commercial crap.

Bbq1 · 14/02/2026 00:31

It's fun and just lifts the day. We've been together 28 years, married 26 and have always celebrated with a card each and thoughtful little token gifts. We've done the same this year and are going out for lunch tomorrow.

SnowFrogJelly · 14/02/2026 01:30

Chocs ♥️

Imsickofbeingsick · 14/02/2026 05:45

Just a card!

IveStillNotGotThisFiguredOut · 14/02/2026 06:28

Nothing and I’ve asked him to please not buy anything.
We will have a drink this evening.

MayaPinion · 14/02/2026 08:01

New wardrobe and home insurance.

BauhausOfEliott · 14/02/2026 08:22

We just exchange cards.

Unlike half of Mumsnet, though, I don’t feel any need to sneer at people who do more.

longtompot · 14/02/2026 13:16

Married 30 years. I used to buy little things for my dh, like a small sculpture or small picture on the theme of love, along with a card, but now I just make a nice dinner and he buys me some spring flowers, this year a mixed bunch of tulips, and a box of chocs to share
Hope you have a lovely day @EagerGreenShaker 💐
