What are you buying your partner for Valentines Day?

OP posts:
HatAndScarf33 · 10/02/2026 18:27

Local bakery does Valentine’s Day cakes and so I have ordered a box for my DH and will also give a card. I know loads of people turn their nose up at Valentine’s Day, but we've always done a little something. Any excuse to celebrate is what I say! Together over 20 years, so definitely not teenagers!

Jellybunny56 · 10/02/2026 18:31

We don’t usually do Valentines Day but I’ve got him a dressing gown this year because he’s started putting mine on when he runs out to get the milk in and it’s giving me the ick a bit😂

Endofyear · 10/02/2026 18:40

Nothing! 😂 we don't do Valentines Day as it always seems too commercial and contrived. We've been married 35 happy years and we treat each other now and again for no reason ☺️

BelleEpoque27 · 10/02/2026 18:41

A card? We don't do presents for Valentine's day, we've been together 20 years 😂

BashfulClam · 10/02/2026 19:23

We just do cards but we make it a competition . All these people who sneer at it do know that Mother’s Day is also made up?

Yes, and I would happily ignore that too but my mum likes it and the DC seem to too.

Marking either of those events with presents and not just cards will always seem odd and excessive to me.

space99 · 10/02/2026 19:31

Just a card here. But we will get one of those dine in for two meals and we are off to the theatre after.

Ok but som people like it the same way you say your kids like Mother’s Day. Live and let live.

Oh god no, we’re grown ups 🤣

I agree with the poster who said it’s a bit of fun! My partner always gets me flowers and another small gift, I’ve got him a gift bag and filled it with all his favourite sweet treats. We were in a shop a few weeks ago and saw a little game, a pack full of “couples conversations starters”… little things like “if you lost me in a supermarket, what aisle would you find me down?” So we’ll probably get those out after he’s cooked us a nice dinner!

Please post the name of the game, sounds like a fab present for Christmas stockings.

So are we (been married 45 years) but still always buy each other a card, a small present and go out for a meal.

I never understand why every year so many posters have to sneer at others who celebrate Valentines.

We often buy each other a gift but also like to make birthdays, wedding anniversary and Valentines special.

Passingthrough123 · 10/02/2026 20:10

I’m buying mine a very expensive aftershave that he used to wear when we met but stopped buying because he couldn’t justify the cost. He’s been financially propping me up for a few years as my clients dried up post pandemic (I am freelance) but I landed (finally!) a great contract before Xmas and this is a way of showing him how grateful I am to him. We’re also going out for dinner. The last few years have been cards only.

Gowlett · 10/02/2026 20:24

Might get M&S Meal Deal

rockstarshoes · 10/02/2026 20:26

I’ve ordered DH a giant Valentine’s pasty & we’ll probably have an M&S meal deal! It’s just something nice to do & a break from the monotony of a normal week! 🤷‍♀️

How am I not? I'm just answering the question posed.

LittleJustice · 10/02/2026 20:31

I've got him a personalised card and a cookery book I know he'll love. We're in our 50s. Any excuse for a mini celebration 🍾

Ilovegolf · 10/02/2026 20:37

A card, a top he wanted and we are going out for lunch to a new restaurant we wanted to try. The sneering on here is weird! We’ve been together 25 yrs and have always done something.

It's hardly a holiday for children, is it?

Elixir86 · 10/02/2026 21:56

I think it's quite nice when people do a little something. I've never really been bought a valentines gift and it's quite sad tbh so I'd love it some day.
I more don't like all the social media posts and photos of people showing off their gifts or how much they love their partner. It stops being about their love at that point and becomes for show instead.

Tootles1 · 10/02/2026 21:58

Nothing

PositiveLife · 10/02/2026 22:17

I got him some clothing for his hobby (which I've already given him so he could use it) and I spotted a book in the free communal library thing so wrapped that for him.
He's got me a mug.
We're going out for a meal (it's the usual menu not inflated prices) using some vouchers we were given at Xmas.

UnusualOtter · 10/02/2026 22:22

A card.
Do people really buy each other gifts for birthday, Christmas, Valentines, anniversary AND Fathers/Mothers Day (if kids are small)? or if you do V Day do you not do some of the others? I would run out of inspiration!

KitKatKrums · 10/02/2026 22:28

We’ve stopped doing gifts but we still exchange cards and usually have a meal at home as it’s too busy and expensive to eat out. He’s cooking this year - Steak & Chips. I’ll probably get a bottle of fizz in. And DD will be out at a sleepover so maybe an early night is in order… Grin

handsdownthebest · 10/02/2026 22:29

Married for 40 years…never done Valentine’s Day…never felt the need to. We go out for dinner frequently and treat each other so Valentine’s is just another day…or those days are just like Valentine’s
