whose job was it to clear the kitchen table?

this is how today went:

8 o clock ish dh, dds and I get up. dd2 is off school on an inset day. dh isn;t working. dd1 and I go downstairs, have some breakfest, clear it up, I take her to school. I come home, dh and dd1 playing upstairs. I come on the computer, do some house-hold admin type jobs and then start working (I work from home during school hours). dh gets dd1 breakfasted and dressed then takes her out for the day. I stay at home and work, apart from at lunchtime when I go to dd1's school to help out with the lunchtime running club.

dd1's breakfast things stay on the kitchen table all day. who should have cleared them up?

I don't mean to be rude, but is this really worth arguing about? I would think the daughter should clear her own dish, but if she's not big enough, whoever fed her should take the dish to the sink. But it's only one dish, after all said and done, isn't it?

DH should have cleared up. Tis clear to me.

If you are reduced to this level of futility about how chores are shared out, you must have much bigger issues to deal with...

did dh leave dd2s plate on the table? Or is dd2 old enough to take it herself?

Hatwoman's profile says DD2 is 6. Old enough to carry a plate but young enough that she would be far too excited about life to even think about a plate. Its DH's responsibilty.

Anyway, I think Hatwoman should put her feet up with a glass of wine, a large bowl of popcorn or olives (delete as appropriate Hatwoman) and chill out with her DH and her girls and watch a picture. (Thats a movie for all you modern things.)

I like you brucelovesfrumpygrumpy . I know I know I should get a life. but I'm pleased that whilst I get a (wholly legitimate) bashing for being niggled that at least some of you think it was dh's responsibility. (but ultimately, age 6, dd's job)

it is part of a wider niggle (but not a big one in the scheme of things). I think it's to do with conceptualising jobs. in my book clearing up is something you do as you go along. ie clearing up the breakfast things is part of having breakfast. (rant alert, I can feel it coming) and recently I've noticed a few ocassions when this hasn;t happened - and if I wasn;t around I wouldn't give a shit, but when I come downstairs from working to make myself a cup of tea to find the kitchen table half-covered (not just a bowl, but cereal packet, half-full bottle of milk, cutlery, cups and the perpetrators out for the day (ie no intention of doing it) I find it really....niggling. But I'm crap at saying anything (I tried recently and he just got annoyed - he wouldn;t find it niggling therefore I;m not allowed to). egads I need that glass of wine.

and come on anna888 wouldn;t you have been...niggled. and if you can;t post your niggles here what can you do with them...

I am irritated by same thing at moment. Only me and the kids to blame though!

They didn't put the MILK away? Now that is bad. Sour milk alert and conceivably even salmonella. That bit would niggle me. Mess I'm used to.

hatwoman - no I wouldn't have been "niggled". These things happen; clearing up other people's small messes is just part of domestic life IMO... I don't keep tabs on it.
