So even older men are doing this now?

OP posts:

Maybe he’s died, being so elderly?
Seriously OP - people behave badly at all ages, he was probably an arse when he was 20 too.

🤣🤣🤣

Is anyone else just thinking it's 2days not 2weeks? Or am I just really relaxed

It’s 2 days!! You’ve blocked him because he didn’t message for 2 days!! He’s had a lucky escape.

I love fact that the OP’s last, very recent thread was asking how to tell new partner she has genital herpes

Blimey 👀

He won't because I've blocked him.

Do tell, what’s the polite response to sexts?

Well good for you.

I don't find it funny when a lot of society think older people are a waste of space and would be better off dead anyway.

I will be dead very shortly and quite frankly I don 't want to be reminded of the fact just to amuse younger people.

Edited

I think you are being ultra sensitive . There are more older people on MN than you would expect and a lot of people, me included, do call out ageism when we see it but the post you’ve picked up on was a pretty obvious joke, which actually highlighted the casual ageism in the thread title.

I don't find jokes about people dying remotely funny.
And yes I am sensitive because I dont want people to poke fun at the fact I'll be dead soon.

Itchytoe · 02/07/2025 19:57

@Putmyfootinitagaindontyouknow if you will “be dead very shortly”, please don’t spend the last of your life arguing on mumsnet!

What do you suggest I do?
I updated my will last week.
Perhaps I'll plan my funeral now.
Do you find that an acceptable way for me to spend my time?

Are you housebound? Bed bound?

is arguing on mumsnet seriously the only way you plan to see out your life?

I'm an old fart (mid 50s) and I found it funny. 🐑

Seriously though, why will you be dead soon?

Pollqueen · 02/07/2025 20:47

Well I'm nearly 60 and I thought it was funny. OP why have you blocked him after 2 days? That seems a bit extreme

50 is scarcely middle aged.
You've got another 30 years before you are "elderly ".
You might not find jokes about older people dying so funny then.
I think this thread shows the contempt people feel for older people that its so acceptable by so many posters to laugh at their death.

MN in particular is full of it.

Totally what I am thinking. I have a message from a friend from over a week ago that I've not managed to reply to as yet because I have been so crazily busy and I love her!b

Also going to say this.

might just be busy for a couple of days. I would one be blocking him

The joke was not about people dying.

It was the opposite.

It was a sarcastic comment aimed at the OP (who WAS being ageist) who was considering someone in their 60s as old.

The sarcasm in the post was pointing out that the ghosting-man was not close to end of natural life at all.

(I am in the second half of my 60s)

AnyoneWhoHasAHeart · 02/07/2025 21:03

Putmyfootinitagaindontyouknow · 02/07/2025 16:15

I take it thats meant as a joke?
Not very funny for MNers like myself in their 70s.

I assume she was taking a pop at the OP’s suggestion that a 60 year old is elderly.

BangersAndGnash · 02/07/2025 21:05

OP: in truth, if nothing happened in 3 weeks when you were together all day, maybe he wonders what is to be gained from messaging now you are long distance?

@Arlanymor not too busy to mumsnet 😆

Oh dear, while someone on this thread might be physically old, there’s clearly a lot of growing up to be done.

Exactly. I was going to try to explain it too, but then couldn't be bothered. That joke is the very opposite of ageist.
