Tell him to you know what and find another breeder.

MumChp · 13/02/2025 01:44

Haven't seen the puppy? I wouldn't pay more than the £200 already paid. It's a big red flag.

fandangored · 13/02/2025 01:44

Though so :(

My son has been waiting ages poor thing.. looking for a good puppy breeder has been a nightmare!!

You have to go and meet the dog before you do anything. What if it’s a feral maniac. You have to make sure your child is comfortable with it.

NiftyKoala · 13/02/2025 02:18

Do not go any further. A good breeder has no reason to pressure anyone.

Crankyaboutfood · 13/02/2025 02:22

adoption would help put these unethical breeders out of business. it there a reason you want a very specific dog?

fandangored · 13/02/2025 07:37

They are asking for part cash payment on the day of viewing puppy for the first time..

The reason for a breed is great with kids, supposedly calm, low allergy etc.,

I sent an email and her reply is this...

'I’m not sure where this has all come from but I asked for cash on viewing day and it’s you who has asked to pay by bank transfer so I’ve asked for it to be done before you come. If you’re not happy to part with money beforehand then cash on the day is my normal protocol after your appointment and cash for collection otherwise bank transfer is to be done prior to both arrivals.

I’m not sure what you’ve been reading at this time of night but I think you’ve driven yourself into panic mode, I’m a 5* licensed reputable breeder as you can clearly see from my Facebook page and reviews and I won’t be tarred with the same brush as whoever you’ve dealt with in the past.

I’ve operated the same protocols for the last 8 years and I’ve never had anyone dispute the way I work. Firstly there are lots of parts of paperwork to the contract, you have the first part after viewing day which is your holding deposit form and then contract of sale you when you collect. And no I don’t want you taking your puppy to the vets within 72 hours- firstly vets are places where people take poorly animals so you can pick up all sorts of germs, secondly you are having a full documented and signed health report from a vet upon collection and lastly it already states in my contract that if anything is found which deems your puppy unsuitable to be a family pet then you will have a full refund. You will be visiting your vets at 10 weeks for second vaccination and further check up once your puppy is more settled so you do not need to take them to the vets prior to this.

I’ll send photos of my paperwork tomorrow at some point when I’ve had chance to print.'

Any thoughts??

Take the cash with you as agreed. It sounds like they've had trouble with time wasters.

Breeder applying pressure for payment and asking for transfer or cash payment BEFORE viewing day

She is not asking for cash before viewing day - she’s happy to receive cash at first viewing.

I’m not sure where this has all come from but I asked for cash on viewing day and it’s you who has asked to pay by bank transfer so I’ve asked for it to be done before you come.

DustyLee123 · 13/02/2025 07:44

So they aren’t asking for money before viewing? They are asking for it on the day.

DustyLee123 · 13/02/2025 07:45

Breeders tend to be very busy looking after the mum and pups, they don’t want frequent contact.

KnewYearKnewMe · 13/02/2025 07:46

She sounds knowledgeable, OP.

When did you send her an email, if she's referenced 'this time of night'?

I guess you've paid £200 reservation fee - normal.

She's then said once you meet your dog, if you decide to go ahead, it's payment then - normal.

Have you got your wires crossed?

She's probably starting to worry that you will be a problem buyer.

OrlandointheWilderness · 13/02/2025 07:47

I think her response is fine actually- can I ask what breed of pup this is? Are the parents health tested and have you seen their results?

wingsspan · 13/02/2025 07:50

Sounds like you must have sent quite an unpleasant email to trigger that response!

She does sound knowledgeable though OP and she isn't asking for money before you see the dog.

I would apologise for the misunderstanding and go ahead if you still want the puppy.

fandangored · 13/02/2025 07:51

I asked for a bank transfer but she's saying cash (who carries £500?)

She's not saying you have to pay cash.

She's saying that if you choose to do a transfer it needs to have cleared beforehand, which makes sense.

If you don't want to do that then just go and get the cash out of the bank.

KnewYearKnewMe · 13/02/2025 07:53

She's saying she wants time for the bank transfer to clear, not that she won't take one.

thehorsesareallidiots · 13/02/2025 07:53

Where did you find this breeder?

You go to the cash point!

User543211 · 13/02/2025 07:58

I think when buying a pup or a kitten all the guidence says not to part with any cash before you've viewed, but in my experience most breeders (in my area anyway) actually follow the model this breeder does. They have no problem shifting their animals so losing the odd person that wants to wait until they've seen the animal makes no difference.
It's very much a business for them and I think it's easy for them to forget what a big deal it is for the buyer.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 13/02/2025 07:59

Where did you find her ?
is she a KC registered and approved one ?

to be licensed - by the Council means she breeds big style !

who awards the stars ?

not to take your own puppy for a vet check when you get it - WOW !!!

facebook reviews - so what !

I have bought 2 pedigree puppies in my life, very very carefully chosen breeders and have only ever paid a reservation deposit with the balance paid the day I collected puppy.

What breed is puppy ?

Read my AMA thread. That’ll tell you how to find a good breeder, and what to look for and what to avoid.

Someone who knows they need to pay £500 in cash so they withdraw it from the bank 🤷‍♀️

YADBU here not the breeder.

LandSharksAnonymous · 13/02/2025 08:00

I’d also add that Katy Price could get a 5* licence if she tried - it’s not hard. In fact, it’s the bare sodding minimum anyone breeding should do - gloating about it, or claiming it’s a mark of a good breeder, is just embarrassing.

cheeseismydownfall · 13/02/2025 08:05

I'm not sure why bank transfer on the day isn't an option. The days of having to wait for money to clear are well gone. I have done this many times in person as an alternative to cash - I make the transfer via my online banking, they check the money has arrived via their online banking 10 seconds later. In fact this is exactly how we paid for our pedigree cat (from an excellent breeder).
