Are there are any very short women in happy relationships with short men?

Whitsta90 · 06/12/2024 22:01

A very popular topic posted many times on this site, but I was wondering if there are any below average height women who are in happy relationships with men who are also below average, or maybe just about average height. I [M, single-approaching mid 30s, single and at the point where I'd like to settle down with someone],I have noticed quite a strong point made in these kind of threads both here and elsewhere, that aside from the obvious general consensus that women are more attracted to taller men, that usually the women who are most biased where this is concerned are much smaller height women.

My main reason for asking is that I am a slighter build and shorter height man-just 5'7'', so I guess I can be classed as quite short, not super short but well outside the famous 6'' height range preference-Who does have quite a thing for very height small women, however quick disclaimer, I am perfectly open to dating women of all height ranges and build and have been attracted to a very wide variety of women[tall/short/curvy/chubby/skinny]. I tend to be most attracted to faces more than body where the physical side of things is concerned, and then its all about personality which I'm finding makes a huge difference now I've reached the age I have. However I have very often been attracted to smaller than average women, so it would be nice to hear if there are any women of this description that are married/in relationships with guys of my stature, mainly because I so often typically see it written how women like this are more often than not, less attracted to guys of my physical description -[Not sure if I mentioned it but I'm slim build as well unfortunately, so another disadvantage😂]-Would be nice to hear if a few real life instances exist, just to give a little ray of hope that regardless of who I do manage to hopefully attract, I might have a least a bit of a chance with smaller women as well😂

I’m 4’11 in a relationship with a man who’s probably 5’4, I’m not 100% sure. Very happy in the relationship.

What I will say, is that if I was looking for a relationship and wanted to have children with them, I’d want to be with a man who was 5’10+ to give my children a fighting chance of being average height!

It’s easy for people who haven’t experienced life at the extreme end of the scales to say ‘oh height doesn’t matter!’ But truly, living life at 4’11 does have obstacles that a lot of people never really consider, the world isn’t designed for us.

So I’d choose someone that could genetically counter my shortcomings.

HotCrossBunplease · 07/12/2024 09:56

Move to Scotland, average height of both men and women is much shorter there!

My Dad was 5’8, my husband is 5’8, my father in law was 5’7, brother in law 5’9. All very average here.

Notellinganyone · 07/12/2024 09:57

I’m 5ft 2 and my husband is 5 ft 7. Very happily married for 20 years.

Oh, also -- I honestly don't understand how tiny women make relationships work with tall men. I'm 5'5 and I find it uncomfortable just walking and talking with my 6 foot work bestie; I can't even imagine how annoying it would be to try and shag him.

Because the difference in torso height isn't usually as dramatic as overall height. So lying down there isn't much of a problem

MerryLiftMass · 07/12/2024 10:03

Happily married, I am 5ft 2 and my husband is 5ft 4.

I have had taller boyfriends and spent half my time sniffing their armpit 🤷‍♀️

turkeyboots · 07/12/2024 10:04

A lot of people have no idea what 5ft or 6ft or even 7ft looks like in reality. I'm a bit taller than you and people would often assume I'm 6ft, as I'm tall for a woman. So being truthful on online dating may be an issue as everyone else is assuming they are way taller than they are!
DH is a whole 5cm taller than me. We've been together 27 years.

romdowa · 07/12/2024 10:12

I'm 5 foot 1 and when I was dating I did only date guys who were taller than me but let's me honest most guys are taller than me 🤣🤣 at 5 foot 7 you would be the perfect height!

MrTwatchester · 07/12/2024 10:15

My husband is the same height as me, 5'9. But I have happily dated shorter, I've always liked short men. Bald ones too.

Rainbow321 · 07/12/2024 10:20

I'm short and less than 5ft , dh is around 5.8 / 5.9 tbh I've never really asked him . If your a short woman , most men are taller than you .
Does it really matter ? My sil is married to a man shorter than her .

Well then it shouldn't be an issue for you as presumably you're not looking to settle down with a teenager/very young woman.

No, I'm just fascinated by how it seems to have become such a vocal subject these days, I don't remember it being quite as big as a thing as it seems to have become, i'm still relatively young and yet I don't ever remember it being mentioned in my own peer groups when i was very young anything like as often as it is now. Back in the late 2000s/early 2010s it didn't appear to be anything like as much of a thing

I’m 5’ 2” and DH is 5’ 8” . DH is about the tallest man I’ve been with. My eldest daughter is 5’ and her DH about 5’ 6”. She’s like me in that she’s never found tall men in the least bit attractive.

I think some of it is that rhe ridiculous and unrealistic standards/expectations that have always been applied to women are now being applied to men too.

And a lot of it is men blaming women for the fact they're single - calling women shallow etc and becoming angry at them because they're single becaise women wont date ahort men.

I've never met a short man who was/became single through his height but plenty who were/became single through their appalling attitude towards women!

I'm not suggesting this is the case with you, OP, but a lot of men also seem to regard the talk of men should be 6 foot tall as unfair and wrong but still think the expectation of women to be/remain a size 8 and under 25 their whole lives to be entirely reasonable.

It's also generally only those men who ever experience an issue with their height who think like that.

Meemeows · 07/12/2024 11:48

Whitsta90 · 07/12/2024 00:03

5'7'' is still a full 7 inches taller than a woman of 5 foot, a noticeable difference, enough that I can quite easily be looking down on a woman of this height [probably come to around chin level to me] and yet i've seen examples of women of this height still dismissing my height as too short, whether its an exaggerated online thing or its different in real life i don't know but I really can't seem to fathom it...

Edited

That is because globally many people are mich shorter than Europeans in general, so that average is skewed for example by 1.4 billion Chinese people, 1.4 billion Indian people etc, who are much smaller on average.

Even the averages for the UK population are skewed by our ageing population. Firstly, people generally shrink 1-2 inches as they age. Secondly, the older generations were on average much smaller than people in their 20s-30s now, mainly due to poorer nutrition.

Global averages, or even UK averages, are therefore pretty meaningless as a comparison. You'd want to look at the average height for someone your age. For UK men the average is 5'10.5" for 16-24 year olds, 5'10 for 25-34 year olds and 35-44 year olds, and gradually shrinks down to 5'7" for 75+ year olds.

Meemeows · 07/12/2024 11:54

The average height of women in Europe (including our ageing populations!) is 5'6". In the UK it is 5'4" but for young women the average is 5'7"-5'8". Much higher than the global average due to genetics and nutrition.

kshaw · 07/12/2024 11:56

I'm about 5.8 and my fella is 5.6. I always thought height would bother me but he's so lovely it genuinely doesn't bother me!

Yes, I agree with you and I think it works both ways, I think the main rub is though, and this is usually the default phrase that's brought up but it is true, that women-not ALWAYS but ON THE WHOLE- with the exception of those with medical conditions, which I know because my sister suffers from this, can do something about they're weight but if your a short height man your stuck with it [unless you pay a fortune for limb lengthening surgery and likely disable yourself in the process].

I've been attracted to a variety of body types but some men do act like men never dismiss women for being overweight and I know this is complete garbage as i have heard men quite often being dismissive about women's appearances too, but I do think it works both ways, and expectations on both sides have become ridiculous nowadays

I'm very short and have shorter and very tall long term partners.

Height wise I preferred the shorter one tbh.

Whitsta90 · 07/12/2024 12:07

These responses have made me feel a little better, thank you. I have noticed online, including other threads on this site, that some women are quite forward in expressing that they are not in any way attracted to men who are not anything other than very tall. To be honest I think my main issue isn't entirely the height in itself, I am also very slight build too, which a few people in real life have actually pointed out

I don't know if it is confirmation bias (I look out for something so i see it) but whenever I am out and about in London I see loads of very short men (5'2-5'5) with their arms wrapped around beautiful women, looking very happy together. I notice it because DS was very worried in his teens that his height would be an issue and I worried on his behalf. But it hasn't been and clearly isn't for many men. What was an issue was self-consciousness and lack of self-confidence. he had to work on that. @Whitsta90 , can I politely suggest that is might be the main stumbling block for you?

But you have to trust that someone love that skinny hipped little rockstar look. Think what a sex symbol Prince was. I explained this to DS as he was small and thin. He started dressing in a slightly more skinny rockstar way. It attracted women who love that gamine look in a man.

39424everx · 07/12/2024 12:16

I'm sorry OP, I just can't help wanting to say you shouldn't believe everything you read online.

People feel they can say anything on SM , even portray themselves to be unlike what they're really like, just because they can.

You've seen the general and I would say nearly overwhelming consensus on here that height doesn't matter to the majority of those that took the time to respond.
It's what's inside the person's head that matters, once you get to know the other person; that goes for males as well as females. That's pretty basic.

There are real women out there, and you'll meet her, don't read and feel badly about what unseen, unknown people say on SM. Don't believe this 'short kind' BS.
It doesn't represent what people are really like in person when not emboldened by the anonymity of being online.

The bottom line is (generally speaking) when you meet "the one" you really don't tend to notice physical imperfections.

Online dating probably has its place, but you don't to choose partners in the same way as you'd buy livestock.

Some women will only be attracted to tall men. Some of us are mainly attracted to shorter and outright short men.

If people were only attracted to one type, then there wouldn't be the variety of people that there are.

My partner is 60 and still has a mohican. Wouldn't be the type for most women on here but I love it and, when we got together when I was 46, I thought my days of dating men with mohicans were long gone - most men off my age (50) and older don't have the hair for it! 😉

I'm 5'4 and have dated a man shorter than me in the past. My husband is 5'8.

Whoarethoseguys · 07/12/2024 15:35

Yes, there are many of them . Me and my husband are both below average height
