My first thought was to tell him that you will have to warn guests when they arrive "my DH has this habit..."

My second thought was (remembering all those men who are told to put it down after) is that you could put it UP after you use it.

great idea Greyriverside

"you could put it UP after you use it"

not ideal. and I totally understand how frustrating and yuck it must be. but if you're having no joy after 10 years then he is never going to change is he.

I like the rhyme ''If you sprinkle when you tinkle, be a sweetie wipe the seatie''. Try the nice approach first and pin the rhyme up in the bathroom in sort of jest. Then if that doesn't work get really serious. i can think of a couple of suggestions but you might think I'm really mean . By the way how many bathrooms/loos do you have? You could banish him to the smallest one and make him clean it himself until he has changed his habits?

Put Clingfilm over teh bowl, put the seat down on top of it and wait....

TheFallenMadonna · 14/04/2008 13:00

Close the lid when you flush. It's apparently more hygienic and if he's lifting the lid he can lift the seat with no further effort.

cling film over the toilet seat rim, then he has to lift it to pee.

keep doing this until it becomes learnt behaviour.

seriously, this IS divorce behaviour! I always lift the seat, even if occasionally I forget to put it back down...
