It's a WhatsApp and Partner one....

Casually glanced at partner's phone when he was on WhatsApp. At the top of the chats was an 'archived' folder, it wasn't there the last time we were looking at a family chat message on his phone. So it's recently appeared.

I've figured out an Archived folder stays at the top of chats if you still receive messages from whoever you archived.

Hmmm has made my spidey senses tingle a bit.

Can anyone shed any light if this seems suspicious? Or am I being daft? Thanks!

I’ve archived loads of stuff, old groups where I’m still friendly with the others on there but it’s defunct now - you know, “hen do prep” or “blah blah work event” sort of stuff. Once the occasion has been and gone I don’t want to announce my departure from the group but I don’t want it constantly pinging and pissing me off with irrelevant chit chat so I mute and archive.
Dh doesn’t have WhatsApp - he hates phones and modern technology and can barely text 😂 the kids take the piss out of his famous text responses to absolutely everything - the classic dad’s thumbs up.

Yup archived folder at the top of my Whatsapp list ( iphone) and I have absolutely no idea how to archive anything so it’s just happened! Think he might well be innocent on this one.

Could be something really simple, I archived Temu whatsapp but as they ALWAYS message my archived folder is at the top!
So nothing suspicious just less annoying for me!

Archive folder is always at the top it doesn’t mean it’s still receiving messages. I archive loads of boring / old chats.

I don’t think you have any issue here, it’s nothing.

I’ve got 2 archived chats from years ago that haven’t ever messaged but it’s still at the top of my messages

Could you breezily say ' do you know about the archive function on Whatsapp? I don't use it but a friend was mentioning that she hides her work chats using it ' and then watch his body language ????

It's only thanks to this thread that I've discovered I have an archived folder on WhatsApp. I'd never noticed or used it before but there it is. I've never archived anything deliberately but in it there are groups I've left or been removed from plus some blocked contacts and groups that haven't seen any activity for a long long time.

Bollocks. I’ve just checked my iPhone WhatsApp app and ‘archived’ is indeed at the top of the list. I’ve never really paid any attention to it.

I left a charity this year and archived old chats I’d had with folks. Now realised I have 7 missed messages from some going back to March. Oops.

I have an archived folder at top- so does my husband. So do loads of people. Nothing to hide. If you trust him it’s nothing.

Can we have a few more posts telling the OP that the folder is normal please, I dont think we've had enough.

archived is ALWAYS there. It depends how much you scroll down as to whether you see it. Archives will always show if there’s a new chat within ie “archived (1)”

If he really wanted to hide a chat he could use the hidden folder feature instead of the archive. It only shows up if you have something in it and you pull down on the screen from close to where the archive folder shows up.

You can lock and hide chats on WhatsApp. If he had anything actually suspicious he'd be doing that, not archiving them. I have most people archived on mine 😂😂

About half my chats are archived. I find it overwhelming otherwise as am in many WhatsApp groups

I’ve just looked at my archive and there’s about four years of group chats like kids birthday parties, colleagues leaving collections, hen dos, group nights out blah blah it’s where you send the stuff you don’t want to see anymore - chill out

Well you obviously don't trust him because the first thing you think of is that he's up to no good. Lots of legit reasons to archive a conversation, as others have pointed out.

Why don't you just glance over next time he has it open and ask him what the archived thing means? His response should tell you all you want to know.

My archived folder is on the top. It's always there. I haven't even opened the folder in months!

Hmm.. beware of the man who was a player right up until they met you. I can see why you'd be on high alert given his history, only wise as it takes a big attitude change to change behaviour.
Having said that, I have archived recent ex's for a time, so could be that - given he has a lot of ex's, one of them could of texted him recently to put it at the top.

I wouldn't break trust and start looking on his phone. Next time it's open say ooo I see you are utilising archive. I've been thinking of doing that to organise my chats better, how does it work and what type of chats do you archive?

My archive folder is at the top but no recent messages in it

i noticed the other day that a recent update has put an archives folder at the top of my chat in WhatsApp. I haven’t ever archived chats to my knowledge so it stood out to me. OP I wouldn’t worry about it- it definitely is a standard thing in the latest update.
