She is so better off without Ed. He's sneaky, manipulative (playing the generous benefactor while she's the one that does most of the work in that household), and can't see what's infront of him. she should have left him (and his stupid brother) on their own with 3 kids of that age for a whole day.
not condoning smacking but a wee bit of empathy might not go amiss...
