Would you date someone who put 'Right' as their political affiliation on dating app?

As title states. I don't think I would care as I didn't bother voting. But I HATE this government.

OP posts:

I would be intrigued to know what that meant. If he meant ‘smaller state, lower taxes, a conservative approach to gender woo’ then fine. If he meant ‘racist knuckle dragger’ that would not be fine and I wouldn’t be interested after that.

I would say I’m politically central and mix and match my views according to what seems to fit the problem, bur I would be equally suspicious of somebody who was ‘FAR LEFT, FUCK THE TORIES’ as far left men are actually some of the most patronising and sexist people I’ve ever come across.

I agree. My views are a bit of a mix and match across the political spectrum so anyone who hold strong views at either end would be a bit of a red flag.

Amd yes some of the very left wing men I’ve come across are absolutely sexist misogynistic dickheads who still have values in the 70’s

Sdpbody · 17/05/2024 09:24

I would personally. Tory's are right of the middle, but I think the middle has changed somewhat over the last few years. I wouldn't date someone extremely right wing.

Alltheunreadbooks · 17/05/2024 10:15

Unless I was right wing myself, then no.

They way you vote is a reflection of your personal values.

For me, anyone who is right wing or votes Conservative has no compassion, kindness or common decency - that's a fact . I would also suspect them of them of being racist and a bigot.

Fortunately for these people, there are a huge amount of them so he will find a right wing woman and they can discuss how woke everything is these days, and how ' you can't say anything' as everyone gets offended.

MsLuxLisbon · 17/05/2024 10:31

Yes, I would. I would date someone who was an actual conservative/libertarian. Not a Tory as the party currently stands.

It's not a fact. It's an opinion. There are plenty of left wing people who also lack compassion, kindness and common decency.

I don’t even know where to start with this pile of nonsense!

Notaflippinclue · 17/05/2024 11:20

Yes I'm right - we can't all be perfect

IvyGrippedtheSteps · 17/05/2024 11:23

Certainly not, any more than I would date a flat earther or devoutly religious type. It’s a fundamental difference in worldview.

DustyFire · 17/05/2024 11:25

I’d avoid someone who stated Right. I’d also avoid anyone claiming to be apolitical. Politics affects nearly every aspect of our lives.

For me anyone who votes Labour supports war in Iraq and actively celebrated the death of nearly half a million civilians based on a false premise for war.

I would also suspect them of being violent extremists.

Fortunately for these people there a huge amount of them so they can find a like minded woman and discuss how to attack and persecute those who don’t agree with them.

Does that sound reasonable or is it maybe equally as unhinged as your comment?

gannett · 17/05/2024 12:00

Nope. You can't separate someone's politics from their fundamental ethics and general world view. It's not just about which party you vote for (in fact that's the least important aspect of it).

It's also fundamental to a relationship. Firstly, I don't want a partner who holds traditional or conservative views, many of which I consider toxic and antithetical to the life I want to live. But I want a partner who understands innately when I'm affected by political issues - when I get angry or frustrated I don't want to have to explain myself as if I'm in a debating club. To be on the same page as me politically is to get me on an emotional level.

Could I have friends with different politics? Sure, it's not as intimate a relationship. I can do the debate club sparring when I see certain people at events, and I enjoy it. I couldn't overlook it in my own house though.

ABirdsEyeView · 17/05/2024 12:01

If all else looked good, then I'd try a date. 'Right' could mean anything - it's subjective how right, 'right' is.

I'd be grateful to avoid the Billy Bragg type lefties so this could be a win for me

MissingMoominMamma · 17/05/2024 12:31

No. Our values would be poles apart.

Bobbotgegrinch · 17/05/2024 12:44

I could happily date someone either left or right wing (but not hard left or right)

I definitely couldn't date someone apolitical. How can you not care about something that affects every facet of your life?

Ridiculous statement. This is bubblegum politics.

Anyone who engages in any level of critical thinking is able to understand there is good and bad on both sides.

Tell me something that is good about this Conservative party.

Anything at all.

Spot on lol

blackice · 17/05/2024 18:53

Not a chance

Opentooffers · 17/05/2024 19:26

Not seeing a problem from your pov if apolitical, you shouldn't care either way. As someone pointed out, they think this government is too left, spreading the wealth too much and helping lower incomes might be seen a abhorrent to some, so they don't like this government either, although on the 'right'. You might have common ground in that.
Obviously, it would be a no for people on the left to date the right side, it's a pretty wide gulf. Might get away with it if liberal.

sunflowrsngunpowdr · 17/05/2024 19:38

Just because they wear blue ties it doesn't mean they are on the 'right'. Personally, I would never date a left leaning person but that's just me.

ILikeItWhatIsIt · 17/05/2024 20:21

I would, yes. In fact, I also say 'no lefties' on mine too so it hopefully weeds out some of the weirdos, loonies, and crusties.

Bumblebeestiltskin · 17/05/2024 20:23

Absolutely not. I also wouldn't match with anyone saying 'not political'.

StMarieforme · 17/05/2024 20:38

No

I think 'not political ' is maybe the worst because it feels like they're saying "i dont care about the country/world"?
